This position is responsible for administering SMBC Sydney Branch’s customer due diligence processes and escalating or communicating any AML/CTF issues arising from assessment findings, legislative changes, or regulatory requirements. The role also supports compliance-related activities as directed by the Head of Business Governance and Control, Customer Risk Assessment team leaders and managers, and the Head of Business Governance and Strategy.

This position is responsible for:

  • Ensuring KYC files are accurate, complete, well-substantiated, and completed within required timeframes.
  • Implementing process updates in line with Australian and SMBC requirements, and instructions from Customer Risk Assessment team leaders and managers, the Head of Business Governance and Control, the AML/CTF Senior Manager, or the Head of Compliance.
  • Conducting appropriate searches and screening of all relevant parties as part of the KYC process.
  • Reviewing AML/CTF policies and procedures to develop a strong understanding of SMBC requirements and maintain consistency in current practices.
  • Completing customer risk ratings and money laundering risk assessment documentation in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining AML/CTF records, including customer files and reassessment schedules.
  • Coordinating timely requests to Front Office for the collection of customer documentation.
  • Liaising with Front Office to ensure the prompt receipt of customer information.

To succeed, you will have:

  • Proven understanding of compliance and AML/CTF risk frameworks.
  • AML/CTF experience, particularly in customer due diligence and transaction monitoring.
  • Strong understanding of banking operations and financial products and services.
  • Knowledge of the Australian financial market and regulatory environment.
  • Ability to apply practical solutions to legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to promote a strong compliance and AML/CTF culture both internally and externally.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues.
  • Sound time management and organisational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, particularly when engaging with Front Office and other stakeholders involved in AML/CTF processes.
