Job Description
Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures (JHTV), the university's technology commercialization division, is launching the JHTV Analyst Program, a structured two-year experiential learning opportunity designed for recent graduates interested in innovation, entrepreneurship, healthcare, science, business, law, technology, and public impact.
We are seeking an Analyst, Commercial Strategy & Operations who will contribute to high-priority strategic initiatives while gaining broad exposure to technology commercialization, startup formation, intellectual property, corporate engagement, venture funding, and innovation management. Through cohort-based learning, professional development programming, executive exposure, cross-functional projects, and mentorship, analysts develop the analytical, communication, and leadership skills that prepare them for graduate study or future careers across the innovation economy.
At the end of the two-year term, Analysts may be considered for open positions within JHTV or the university; however, continuation of employment beyond the term is not guaranteed.
The Analyst, Commercial Strategy & Operations supports university-wide efforts to expand industry engagement, strengthen external partnerships, and advance commercialization opportunities. The role combines research, strategy, operations, communications, and business analysis to support leadership decision-making and organizational growth.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative research to support strategic initiatives and organizational priorities.
- Collect, organize, analyze, and synthesize information from multiple sources to identify trends, opportunities, risks, and recommendations.
- Develop reports, dashboards, presentations, briefing materials, and executive summaries for operational and strategic decision-making.
- Support projects involving faculty, university leaders, external partners, and other stakeholders by conducting research, analysis, and developing recommendations.
- Translate complex information into clear, actionable insights for diverse audiences.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
- Support business process improvement initiatives and recommend enhancements to tools, systems, workflows, and reporting practices.
- Maintain accurate records, documentation, trackers, and project materials.
- Build productive relationships across JHTV and the broader university community.
- Present findings and recommendations to internal stakeholders and leadership.
- Participate in cohort-based onboarding, professional development programming, mentorship opportunities, and cross-functional learning experiences.
- Contribute to a capstone project and final presentation addressing a strategic opportunity or challenge within JHTV.
- Support special projects and other duties as assigned.
In addition to duties described above
- Research the Hopkins campus landscape, peer institutions, and emerging models in commercial revenue, technology transfer, and university-industry partnerships.
- Collect, clean, and consolidate data from disparate sources into usable datasets and KPI dashboards.
- Build and maintain KPI dashboards and recurring leadership reports, with regular updates and refinements as priorities evolve.
- Identify trends, opportunities, and notable changes in data to support leadership reporting and decision-making.
- Develop one-pagers, briefing memos, presentations, decks, talking points, and other materials for board meetings, dean briefings, corporate partner conversations, and leadership communications.
- Maintain consistent formatting, branding, and quality standards across all materials produced by the function.
- Provide ad hoc research, analysis, and project support for strategic initiatives and priorities led by senior leadership.
- Maintain organized records, trackers, reporting tools, and documentation supporting the team's pipeline and reporting needs.
- Identify opportunities to improve or streamline existing tools, templates, processes, and reporting practices.
- Support preparation for meetings and engagements involving corporate partners, industry stakeholders, university leadership, and advisory groups.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
- No prior professional experience required.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- U.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident required due to Federal Export Controls.
- Advanced Degree in a related field.
- Three years of related experience.
- Strong communication, presentation, and executive writing skills.
- Experience conducting research and developing recommendations from complex information.
- Comfort working with data and performance metrics.
- Interest in business development, strategic planning, consulting, higher education, or technology commercialization.
- Ability to work effectively in ambiguous and fast-changing environments.
- Full-time, in-person role based in Baltimore, MD.
- Fast-paced environment with variable hours; not a fixed 9-to-5 schedule.
