Job Description
The AML Analyst is responsible for identifying, investigating, and escalating potentially suspicious activity related to money laundering, fraud, sanctions, and other financial crime risks. This role conducts transaction monitoring reviews, analyzes customer and agent activity, performs research, and supports regulatory reporting requirements while ensuring compliance with anti-money laundering (AML) and applicable regulatory obligations.
The Analyst partners with internal teams to assess risk, identify emerging trends, and support a strong culture of compliance and risk management.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and investigate transaction monitoring alerts and cases to identify potentially suspicious activity.
- Analyze customer, agent, and transaction data to identify money laundering, fraud, sanctions, or other financial crime risks.
- Conduct research using internal systems and external sources to support investigations and risk assessments.
- Escalate suspicious activity and prepare clear, accurate case documentation in accordance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
- Support the preparation and submission of regulatory reports, including Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) and other required filings, as applicable.
- Identify emerging trends, typologies, and patterns of suspicious activity and recommend appropriate actions.
- Partner with Compliance, Risk, Operations, and other business teams to support investigations and risk mitigation efforts.
- Maintain investigation quality, productivity, and compliance with established procedures and service-level expectations.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives, knowledge sharing, and training activities within the team.
Basic Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in AML, BSA, financial crimes, fraud investigations, compliance, risk management, or a related analytical function.
- 2+ years of experience reviewing, analyzing, and documenting investigative findings using transaction or customer data.
- 1+ year of experience conducting research and risk assessments using multiple data sources and investigative tools.
- 1+ Experience identifying and escalating potential compliance, AML, fraud, sanctions, or financial crime risks.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other business systems used for analysis, reporting, and case management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent job experience in the financial services industry is acceptable
- Experience working in a regulated financial services, banking, fintech, payments, or similar environment.
- Experience preparing or supporting Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs), Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs), or similar regulatory filings.
- Experience conducting open-source intelligence (OSINT) or enhanced due diligence research.
- Experience working with large datasets, trend analysis, and reporting.
- ACAMS, CFE, CFCS, or other financial crime compliance certifications.
