The Opportunity
As an Analyst in the Alternatives team, you will support the management of a diversified portfolio focused on generating attractive returns independent of broad market direction. The Alternatives portfolio invests across a range of strategies, primarily through external managers, with a strong emphasis on hedge funds.
You’ll play a key role in monitoring investment managers, contributing to research initiatives and supporting the team’s understanding of markets and portfolio positioning. Working closely with senior team members, you’ll build strong foundations in investment analysis, data interpretation and research, while developing your understanding of alternative investment strategies.

Responsibilities
Investment Monitoring
Support the development and maintenance of tools used to track manager positioning, themes and performance
Analyse portfolio and manager data to identify trends and insights
Contribute to regular monitoring reports for internal stakeholders
Build an understanding of investment processes and portfolio positioning
Research & Analysis
Research hedge fund strategies, market trends and industry developments
Compile and synthesise insights from internal and external sources
Support ad hoc research projects linked to portfolio needs and evolving market themes
Assist in preparing materials and communicating findings to the team
External Relationships
Support engagement with investment managers, peers and service providers
Participate in meetings and capture key insights and actions
Contribute to maintaining knowledge of external managers and industry developments
Collaboration
Work closely with the Alternatives team and broader investment teams
Contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture
Support information sharing to enhance portfolio insights across the organisation
About You
We’re looking for someone who brings:
A strong interest in investing, with exposure to asset management, institutional investing or investment consulting
An understanding of hedge fund strategies and their role in diversified portfolios
Strong analytical and research capability, including the ability to interpret complex macroeconomic themes
Clear communication skills, with the ability to explain complex ideas simply
High attention to detail balanced with the ability to think at a portfolio level
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
In addition, you may have:
A relevant university qualification, with postgraduate study or CFA considered an advantage
Strong numeracy and both quantitative and qualitative thinking capability
Experience working with data and analytical tools, including Microsoft Office
A curious mindset, sound judgement and a proactive approach to learning
Success in this role will come from your intellectual curiosity, collaborative mindset and ability to navigate complexity while contributing to a high-performing investment team.
