Western Digital is seeking a Trade Operations professional with 5–6 years of experience in HTS and ECCN classification. The candidate should possess strong knowledge of General Rules of Interpretation (GRI), Section Notes, Chapter Notes, and Customs rulings.

This role is critical to ensuring accurate product classification, customs compliance, and smooth cross-border movement of goods. The position will support trade operations by maintaining accurate classification data, enabling efficient customs clearance, minimizing compliance risk, and ensuring adherence to applicable import and export regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Classify Western Digital products, components & 3rd party supplier items by:
  • Assigning Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes in accordance with importing and exporting country tariff schedules.
  • Applying GRI rules, Section Notes, Chapter Notes, and relevant customs rulings during classification analysis.
  • Assigning Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCNs) in accordance with the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) Commerce Control List (CCL).
• Maintain and update classification data in Oracle Global Trade Management (GTM).
• Support implementation of trade operation initiatives and projects related to classification and global trade operations.
• Identify opportunities to enhance classification processes, automation, and operational efficiency within trade operations.
• Coordination with Internal Departments: Liaise with internal teams, shipment requestors to facilitate the timely release of shipments and resolve any issues or discrepancies that arise during the clearance process.
• Collaboration: Work closely with logistics, procurement, and business partners teams to ensure smooth movement of goods across borders and to resolve any customs-related issues that may arise.
• Responsible for any other task that is assigned by the management from time to time.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, International Trade, Supply Chain Management, or a related field (preferred).

Experience: 6+ years of hands-on experience in HS & ECCN Classification, Customs operations, import/export documentation, or international trade.

Technical Skills:

• Strong expertise in Harmonized System (HS) & ECCN classification methodology.
• In-depth understanding of General Rules of Interpretation (GRI), Section and Chapter Notes, Customs rulings and classification precedents.
• Knowledge of Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and ECCN classification principles.
• Familiarity with INCOTERMS and global customs compliance requirements.
• Strong knowledge of import/export documentation (commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, etc.).
• Experience working with Oracle GTM or similar Global Trade Management systems.

Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with vendors, and internal stakeholders.

Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail when processing documents and ensuring compliance with complex regulations.
