Agro-Marketing and Trade Agency (AMTA)

Vacancy: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Term: Five-year fixed term contract

Remuneration: Level Tier 2

Location: Windhoek

AMTA is seeking a commercially astute, transformative and visionary executive leader to drive the next phase of growth, performance and national impact for the organisation.

This is an opportunity for a high-calibre executive to lead one of Namibia's strategically important public enterprises operating at the intersection of food security, agri-business development, commercial trade and national economic advancement.

The successful candidate will be a bold and influential leader with the ability to modernise operations, unlock commercial opportunities, strengthen stakeholder confidence, and position AMTA as a high-performing, sustainable and future-focused organisation.

The Board is specifically seeking an executive with a proven ability to:

  • Drive organisational transformation and performance improvement.
  • Lead large-scale commercial and operational environments.
  • Influence at Board, Government and industry level.
  • Build strategic partnerships across public and private sectors.
  • Deliver measurable financial and operational results.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation and execution excellence.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer will provide strategic, commercial and operational leadership to AMTA, ensuring the successful execution of its mandate and long-term sustainability.

The CEO will be responsible for driving growth, operational efficiency, governance excellence, stakeholder confidence and organisational transformation in alignment with Namibia's national development priorities and AMTA's Integrated Strategic Business Plan.

This role requires a highly credible executive capable of balancing commercial sustainability with national developmental impact.

Key Strategic Focus Areas

Strategic & Transformational Leadership

  • Lead the execution of AMTA's long-term strategic vision and transformation agenda.
  • Position AMTA as a commercially agile, innovative and performance-driven organisation.
  • Drive organisational growth, sustainability and market competitiveness.
  • Identify and unlock new business, revenue and investment opportunities.
  • Champion modernisation, digital innovation and operational excellence.

Commercial & Financial Leadership

  • Drive sustainable revenue growth and financial performance.
  • Strengthen commercial partnerships and market penetration.
  • Ensure sound financial governance, risk management and resource optimisation.
  • Improve operational efficiencies and cost effectiveness across the business.
  • Enhance value creation within the agricultural value chain.

Stakeholder & Industry Leadership

  • Build and maintain influential relationships with Government, regulators, farmers, industry bodies, development partners and commercial stakeholders.
  • Represent AMTA at national, regional and international platforms.
  • Strengthen stakeholder confidence and AMTA's national reputation.
  • Advance collaboration across the agricultural and commercial ecosystem.

Governance & Organisational Performance

  • Ensure adherence to strong corporate governance and regulatory compliance.
  • Drive accountability, ethical leadership and high-performance culture.
  • Lead and develop a capable executive leadership team.
  • Embed performance management, succession planning and talent development practices.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants should meet the following minimum criteria:

  • Grade 12 Certificate.
  • A Master's Degree (NQF Level 9) in Business Management, Agricultural Economics, Commerce or a related field.
  • An MBA will serve as a strong advantage.
  • Minimum 10 years' management experience within the agri-business and/or commercial sector.
  • At least 7 years' experience at Executive or Senior Management level.
  • Proven track record in leading complex organisations and delivering measurable strategic and operational results.
  • Strong commercial, financial and business leadership capability.
  • Sound understanding of agricultural value chains, market dynamics and supply chain environments.
  • Demonstrated stakeholder management and influencing capability at senior level.
  • Experience driving organisational transformation and change management initiatives.
  • Strong governance, strategic planning and risk management capability.
  • Valid Code B Driver's Licence.
