Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and technically driven Senior NDT Engineer to join our Advanced Manufacturing & Repair Technology (AMRT) – Inspection Technology Process Development team based in Greenville, SC. In this role, you will serve as a senior-level technical authority and Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Non-Destructive Testing, leading the design, development, validation and deployment of advanced NDT inspection technologies in support of Gas Turbine, Steam Turbine, and Generator product lines.

You will collaborate with global engineering, manufacturing, repair, and field service teams across GE Vernova's international network — bringing technically sound, field-proven inspection solutions to both domestic and worldwide operations. This role demands a seasoned NDT engineer capable of working independently, leading technical initiatives, and influencing stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

You will serve as a technical Subject Matter Expert (SME), driving innovation from concept through implementation — including probe design, technique development, process documentation, process validation, and operator qualification.

This is a highly technical and collaborative role for an engineer who thrives at the intersection of engineering rigor and hands-on problem solving.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead the development and validation of novel NDT inspection techniques for complex turbine and generator components, with deep technical expertise in Eddy Current (ET) and Ultrasonic Testing (UT) methodologies
  • Design and specify custom inspection probes and tooling, in collaboration with vendors, global engineering centers, and internal R&D teams to address unique and challenging inspection requirements. Negotiate technical requirements, and drive continuous improvement in inspection tooling and instrumentation
  • Have strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving capabilities with a track record of delivering technically sound solutions under schedule and quality constraints.
  • Author, approve, and maintain formal process engineering specifications. Review inspection procedures, work instructions, technique sheets, and engineering specifications in accordance with applicable codes and standards (e.g., ASNT, ASTM, ASME, MIL, EN, ISO).
  • Serve as the primary technical SME for NDT inspection, providing authoritative guidance and training on developed techniques to production, MPE, repair, field service, and quality teams on inspection-related questions, non-conformances, disposition of indications, and corrective actions
  • Coordinate and collaborate with global counterparts across GE Vernova's international sites and technology centers to align inspection strategies, share best practices, and support technology transfer and implementation worldwide. This includes
  • Lead or support the substantiation for new inspection processes including structured validation studies and Probability of Detection (PoD) assessments.
  • Represent the team in internal and external technical reviews, design reviews, customer audits, and industry forums related to NDT inspection.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and technicians, contributing to the overall technical growth and capability development of the team

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution (Mechanical, Electrical, Materials Science, or related discipline) and 8+ years of progressive NDT engineering experience, with demonstrated depth in technique design, development, validation, industrialization, and process documentation.

AND

  • ASNT NDT Level II certification (minimum) in both:
    • Eddy Current Testing (ET)
    • Ultrasonic Testing (UT)

OR

  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in engineering or development and application of inspection technologies, as an ASNT Level III in Eddy Current Testing (ET) and/or Ultrasonic Testing (UT ), in lieu of degree.
  • Willingness to travel up to 15% per year for validation testing and field services onsite customer support, and global supply chain support

Desired Characteristics:

  • Master’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution (Mechanical, Electrical, Materials Science, or related discipline)
  • ASNT NDT Level III certification in ET and/or UT with experience in Advanced UT techniques such as Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT), Full Matrix Capture / Total Focusing Method (FMC/TFM), Time-of-Flight Diffraction (TOFD) or Advanced ET techniques including pulsed eddy current, eddy current array (ECA), Alternating Current Field Measurement (ACFM), or rotating probe inspection
  • Proven experience developing inspection solutions for complex geometries, hard-to-access locations, and advanced materials typical of rotating turbomachinery or similar high-integrity applications, inclusive of custom probe and delivery mechanism design, for inspections in difficult to reach areas.
  • Experience authoring and approving NDT procedures in compliance with industry standards and customer specifications, demonstrating excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical content to engineering peers, leadership, and global stakeholders.
  • Direct background in gas turbine, steam turbine, or generator component inspection — including blades, vanes, nozzles, wheels, rotors, windings, and casings
  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead technical projects from concept through implementation with minimal supervision and experience conducting or leading Probability of Detection (PoD) studies and formal inspection qualification programs
  • Knowledge of EPRI, ASNT, ASME, GE Vernova, or other NDT industry standards and technical specifications
  • Proficiency with NDT simulation or modeling tools (e.g., CIVA, COMSOL,) for technique optimization and virtual validation, as well as proficiency in CAD (i.e. NX, Solidworks, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of fracture mechanics as well as experience with other NDT technologies such as radiography, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, etc.
