Job Description
DEFINITION - The Logistics Planning Supervisor is responsible to support functional areas in the production environment. This includes managing shipping and all shipping staff, managing shipping at a satellite location, routing product, inventory control, receipt management for purchase orders, assisting with shipping reports and tracking. The responsibilities also include ensuring safety, on time performance, customer service, quality, housekeeping, integrity, attainment of goals, and adherence to company policies. This position requires coordinating and managing multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
- Manage shipping departments for main and satellite location and maintain frequent communication between facilities.
- Route product to appropriate departments in preparation for shipping.
- Manage inventory control system.
- Manage receipts for purchase orders.
- Assist in shortage reports in cooperation with production leadership.
- Act as the point person for scheduling conflicts of loads.
- Understand transit times to ensure pick up and delivery schedules are efficient.
- Relay accurate confirmation and pickup numbers to appropriate parties.
- Interact closely with sales and operations to ensure proper promise dates are provided to meet shipping goals.
- Effectively communicate with internal departments and external vendors.
- Coordinate with department heads and supervisors in resolving any shipping or inventory issues.
- Work with cross-functional teams to provide shop orders on-time.
- Communicate flow & capacity problems with shop supervision.
- Participate in developing and maintaining procedures, practices, and controls.
- Ensure monthly safety, delivery, quality, production, inventory, and financial metrics.
- Enforce established work rules and operating policies consistent with Ashland Foundry & Machine Works LLC’s vision and mission.
- Create safety awareness by actively observing, auditing, and coaching safe work behaviors and conditions.
- Ensure compliance with safety and environmental rules and regulations.
- Ensure proper execution of policies and procedures within areas of responsibility.
- Ensure compliance with Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Must have good attendance and be reliable.
- All other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of Odyssey ERP system.
- Knowledge shipping management and receiving process.
- Knowledge of inventory management.
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in resource allocation, leadership, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
- Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and senior managers, as well as employees.
- Ability to operate a personal computer and secure information from established data processing, spreadsheet, word processing, database and graphics programs.
- Ability to express ideas and communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
(a) 1-2 years shipping, receiving, and/or logistics experience; and,
(b) Experience with Odyssey ERP preferred; and,
(c) Three (3) to five (5) years of production or manufacturing experience preferred; or
(d) Equivalent combination of education and experience.
