What You Will Be Doing:

IndyEast is a collaborative effort focused on helping residents across Indianapolis’ Eastside build financial stability and long-term opportunity. This place-based initiative brings together neighborhood organizations, employers, small businesses, housing partners, and local leaders to expand access to good jobs, stable housing, asset-building opportunities, and small business support. VISTA members will play an active role in strengthening IndyEast initiatives by helping partners coordinate programs, uncover insights through research and data, share stories of impact, and build the tools and systems that make collaborative community work more effective. Through their service, members will gain experience in community development, economic mobility initiatives, and cross-sector collaboration while helping expand opportunities for individuals and families across the Eastside.

IndyEast Financial Empowerment VISTA

The IndyEast Financial Empowerment VISTA will support innovative initiatives that help Indianapolis’ Eastside residents build financial stability, expand economic opportunity, and pursue long-term financial goals. The VISTA member will collaborate with community partners on initiatives related to guaranteed income, financial capability, and economic mobility. This may include supporting initiatives that connect residents to homeownership preparation, entrepreneurship resources, education and training opportunities, and other pathways to long-term financial security. The Financial Empowerment VISTA will act as a connector between residents, local organizations, and IndyEast while researching best practices, supporting community engagement efforts, and developing partnerships that promote inclusive and sustainable economic opportunity.

About John Boner Neighborhood Centers

Our work falls into five focus areas, with multiple activities within each focus area.

1. Financial Success: JBNC supports neighbors in achieving financial well-being. Through education, coaching services, and career development, neighbors increase capacity to create, build, and pass down long-term wealth.

2. Education Achievement: When youth have access to exceptional educational supports and are set up to succeed in school, their opportunities for the future grow exponentially. JBNC helps foster that progress through a continuum of health, social, and educational supports from birth through college and career.

3. Health & Wellness: Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is important for a happy life, and wellness looks different for each of us from generation to generation. That means different tools and programs to meet different goals. JBNC offers resources to help our neighbors achieve the results that lead to health and independence.

4. Housing Opportunities: By providing safe, stable housing options to families, older adults, mobility-impaired, and vulnerable families, JBNC is able to enhance and maintain quality of life for multiple generations. JBNC owns, operates and manages 250 housing units to offer stable housing to those who need it most.

5. Community Development: Great neighborhoods aren't just about the people - they're also about the places where we live, work, and play. JBNC works with neighbors, partners, and other stakeholders to improve the quality of life through impactful projects and initiatives that affect the quality of life for all residents.
