The Department of American Culture (AC) in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor (U-M) seeks dynamic, early-career applicants for a 100% tenure-track appointment at the rank of assistant professor in the humanities or humanistic social sciences, with an option for a one- or two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the start. This position is part of the LSA Collegiate Fellowship (LCF) program, sponsored by the Phillip J. Bowman Center for Scholarship to Practice at U-M, which aims to recruit faculty who have engaged in efforts to increase access and inclusion in higher education through their teaching and mentoring, AND/OR research and scholarship, AND/OR service and engagement. We are interested in applicants who hold a Ph.D. in American studies, ethnic studies, or adjacent fields, and whose work engages and forges new critical intersections across and between interdisciplinary humanities and ethnic studies. Instructional responsibilities include teaching graduate seminars and large undergraduate lecture courses in American cultural studies methodology and within broad temporal and topical frameworks. Candidates who work in pre-twentieth-century history, literature, and culture; African diaspora; Pacific Islander, Native American, and Indigenous studies; Arab and Muslim American studies; digital studies; environmental humanities; performance studies; and visual culture are especially encouraged to apply.
