AME Regional Health & Safety Manager
The Barrick Africa & Middle East Team are seeking to recruit an AME Regional Health & Safety Manager
The AME Regional Health & Safety Manager provides regional leadership, coordination, and functional support across the AME region, ensuring operations, projects under development and closed/reclamation operations are aligned with company standards, regulatory requirements, and the Journey to Zero objective.
The Manager will contribute towards the development and implementation of the regional Health & Safety strategy, standards, systems, assurance processes, and improvement plans to drive a positive, proactive safety culture, strengthen critical risk controls and deliver sustained safety performance improvement.
The role provides practical guidance to site leadership and supports regional engagement with management, regulators, consultants and other external stakeholders.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development, coordination and implementation of regional Health & Safety strategy, standards, systems, and improvement plans across established and developing AME operations.
- Support governance and assurance performance, ensuring compliance with company standards, ISO 45001-aligned management systems, and applicable local, national and regional regulatory requirements.
- Drive Journey to Zero initiatives across assigned AME operations, supporting a proactive safety culture and clear accountability for safe work practices at all levels.
- Strengthen critical risk management by ensuring effective controls, verification processes, incident learning, and corrective action tracking are implemented across operations, projects, and closure/reclamation activities.
- Partner with AME management teams to ensure consistent implementation of Health & Safety standards and disciplined execution of improvement plans.
- Ensure accurate, timely and meaningful reporting, including leading and lagging indicators, trend analysis, executive reporting, and performance insights.
- Provide in-field coaching, technical guidance and functional support to operations and Health & Safety professionals across AME operations, projects, and closed/reclamation sites.
- Support sites in building fit-for-purpose Health & Safety structures with capable, skilled, and Barrick DNA-aligned personnel.
- Support regional representation on Health & Safety matters with mining industry bodies, government and regulatory agencies, consultants and other external forums as required.
- Provide Health & Safety advice and performance insights to regional and site leadership, enhancing awareness of material risks, regulatory obligations, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Anticipate emerging Health & Safety risks and proactively resolve issues in line with operational requirements, legal obligations, and company objectives.
Qualification Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Mining Engineering, Engineering, Risk Management, or a related technical discipline is required.
- Postgraduate qualification in Health & Safety, Business Leadership or Risk Management is preferred.
- Professional certification or registration in Occupational Health & Safety, Mine Safety, Risk Management or a related field is preferred.
- ISO 45001 or equivalent Health & Safety Management System training or experience is advantageous.
- Demonstrate proficiency and experience in Incident Cause Analysis Method or equivalent incident investigation.
Experience and Skills Requirements
- Minimum 10 years’ Health & Safety experience, including leadership or specialist accountability in mining, resources, or heavy industry.
- Experience supporting Health & Safety across multi-site, regional or multi-country operations.
- Experience contributing to the development of Health & Safety strategy, standards, improvement plans, and risk-based programmes in complex operational environments.
- Strong knowledge of mining safety legislation, regulatory compliance, and safety governance across relevant jurisdictions.
- Demonstrated experience implementing, maintaining, and improving Health & Safety Management Systems, preferably aligned to ISO 45001.
- Proven track record in critical risk management, incident investigation, safety assurance, and measurable safety performance improvement.
- Experience engaging with regional leadership, operational teams, regulatory bodies, industry forums, and external stakeholders.
- Regional Health & Safety leadership with strong operational and practical implementation focus.
- Ability to support strategy development by translating regional priorities, performance trends and operational risks into practical Health & Safety plans.
- Deep knowledge of mining operations, critical risk management and safety assurance practices.
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation, regulatory requirements and ISO 45001-aligned management systems.
- Ability to analyse safety performance data, identify trends and drive targeted improvement actions.
- Ability to study and amplify the culture and conditions that contribute to safe work, beyond simply analyzing failures.
- Strong communication, positive leadership, coaching, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
- High level of integrity, judgement, accountability and commitment to Zero Fatalities.
