As an Ambulatory Surgical Unit Assistant,you willparticipatein the delivery of patient carealongside an encouraging and mentoring RNIn this exciting role, youwill receive on-the-job training to become familiar with specific department procedures, medical terminology,equipmentandsterilization procedures.As assigned, you willassistwithnumeroustasks throughout the department, whether interacting directly with patients and families, stockingsuppliesorfulfilling equipment maintenance needsThis position allows you to enhance your skills and explore the beginning of a meaningful career at Cleveland Clinic.
A caregiver in this position works full-time| 7:00am—3:30pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Escort pre-operativepatientsto bed space andassistwith the pre-operative preparation by orienting themandtheirfamiliesto the unit
Label and securepatient belongings, completevitalsignsandAccucheckandperformother tasks as assigned by RN.
Perform various technical tasks, including set up of IV infusions, application of heat or coldcompresses, application of external monitoring devices and removal of urinary catheters, peripheralIVsor NG tubes.
Performequipment/instrumentdecontamination, inspection,assemblyand sterilization.
Perform andmonitorthe sterilization processes used in the procedural areas and complete logs asappropriate
Utilize the instrument tracking systems tomonitorequipment and document work completed.
Transport properly labeled and packaged specimens as directed.
Transport broken equipment, along with completed requisitions, to the designated location for pick-up.
Stock equipment and supplies as directed to designated par levels.
Assistwithmaintainingequipment control, replacing parts, sending equipment forrepairand obtaining loaner equipment.
Sanitize and clean the ORs consistent with proceduralareasEnvironmental Service Standards.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
HighSchoolDiploma/GED
On-the-Job Training:After selectionand placement into the position, three (3) months on-the-job training to become familiar with specific department procedures, medical terminology, equipment, sterilization procedures
Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA)or American Red Cross
One year of experience in a healthcare or related environment
Successfully complete basic competencies and Level A CPR certification within the probationary period
Physical Requirements:
Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects.
Requires a full range of body motion pulling, lifting, pushing, and transferring patients to and from various apparatus.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
