Job Description

What You'll Be Doing

This is a hands-on technician role focused on keeping ambulances safe, reliable, and ready to respond. You'll:

  • Diagnose and repair ambulances and emergency vehicle chassis
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
  • Perform vehicle inspections, warranty repairs, computer diagnostics, and programming
  • Complete repairs efficiently and accurately according to manufacturer and shop standards
  • Work on customer-owned, company-owned, and warranty vehicles
  • Use diagnostic equipment, hand and power tools, cranes, hoists, and other shop equipment
  • Work both in the shop and, when needed, at customer locations
  • Continue building your knowledge through manufacturer and industry training
  • Partner with our Service and Parts teams to get vehicles repaired and back to the customer
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who already has a strong mechanical foundation. You don't necessarily need to come directly from the ambulance industry—we can teach you the equipment—but you need to understand how to diagnose and repair the chassis and systems underneath it.

You'll bring:

  • 2-year Diesel Technician/Mechanic degree or equivalent hands-on experience
  • At least 3 years of full-time technician/mechanic experience working on heavy-duty chassis
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
  • Welding and cutting torch experience
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • Ability to use computer-based diagnostic systems and learn new technology
  • Strong communication, organization, and attention to detail

Experience working on ambulances, emergency vehicles, fire apparatus, medium/heavy-duty trucks, diesel equipment, or specialty vehicles is a plus.

Why MacQueen?

This isn't about changing oil all day or working on the same truck over and over. Ambulances are complex vehicles with mechanical, electrical, chassis, and specialty systems all working together. You'll get the opportunity to troubleshoot challenging problems, continue developing your technical skills, and work on equipment that has a very real purpose.

At the end of the day, the vehicle you're repairing may be the one someone needs when they're having their worst day.

That's work that matters.

Compensation & Benefits

MacQueen offers competitive compensation based on experience, qualifications, and technical skill level, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, retirement benefits, paid time off, paid holidays, and additional company-sponsored benefits.

Physical Demands & Working Environment

This is a physically demanding position involving extended periods of hands-on work in and around large equipment and mechanical systems. The role may require:

  • Frequently bending, squatting, climbing, grasping, twisting, reaching, and working in various positions for extended periods.
  • Frequently lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or moving items weighing up to 50 pounds, with occasional handling of heavier items using appropriate assistance or lifting equipment.
  • Standing, walking, and moving throughout the workday, including working in confined or elevated areas when necessary.
  • Occasionally sitting and using a computer or diagnostic equipment to access technical information, document repairs, and complete service records.
  • Working in shop or service environments with potential exposure to moving mechanical parts, chemicals, noise, fumes, and other equipment-related hazards.
  • Using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when required by applicable safety procedures
