Summary

OPEN EXAMINATION- ONE-YEAR PROBATIONARY PERIOD

Job Description: Under general supervision, this non-sworn mid-management position plans, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates the effectiveness of the Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulance transport component of the Glendale Fire Department's Emergency Medical Services Program. The position manages Ambulance Operator personnel, staffing, recruitment, onboarding, training, regulatory compliance, quality improvement, operational readiness, and assigned program resources.

This position reports to the EMS/Fire Battalion Chief.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

The following functions are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all listed functions and/or may be required to perform additional or different functions from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

An equivalent combination of experience and education sufficient to perform the essential job functions and provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

Education:

An Associate of Arts or Associate of Science Degree in a related field is required.

A Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree is desirable.

Completion of either a Registered Nursing Program or a Paramedic Training Program is required.

Experience:

Five years of recent experience in the delivery of emergency medical care is required, one year of which must be in a supervisory capacity.

Experience in delivery of skills training and education is highly desirable.

Certifications/Licenses

Possession of a valid California Registered Nursing License or possession of a valid California State Paramedic License is required.

California Fire Service Training

Transportation:

A Valid California Class C Driver's License is required.

Special Conditions

TATTOO POLICY: Unless otherwise exempted, no employee of the GFD shall have any visible tattoos or other skin markings. Tattoos, or other skin markings, shall be covered while on duty with a long-sleeved uniform shirt, long-sleeved work t-shirt, work pants, sweat pants or a tattoo wrap/sleeve (100% cotton-NFPA compliant) approved by the Department. Cosmetic tattoos on the face (e.g. eye brows, eye liner, and lip liner) and wedding band tattoos on the ring finger will be reviewed by the Fire Chief on a case by case basis. Qualifications

EVALUATION OF APPLICATION: Submitted Application will be reviewed to ensure applicants meet the minimum requirements. Only the most qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the selection process.

ORAL INTERVIEW: (Weight: 100%)To evaluate the applicant's experience, education, and general background for the position.

Candidates must pass the exam with a minimum score of 70.00% in order to be placed on the eligible list.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION: A comprehensive background investigation will be conducted on all finalists, which will review and verify personal history including, but not limited to financial responsibility, criminal history, drug use history, driving record, and verification of application materials. Significant issues or omissions in the above-stated areas may be grounds for disqualification. Background investigation will include a polygraph and Livescan fingerprinting.

TIME AND PLACE OF THE EXAMINATION WILL BE ANNOUNCED. Evaluations will be based on the candidate's education and experience relevant to the position. Examinations will assess evaluate the candidate's education, experience, knowledge and skills related to the job. The City of Glendale reserves the right to modify the examination components or their weighting. If changes are necessary, candidates will be informed of the specific examination components and their weight before the examination is administered. The selected candidate will undergo a background check, including Livescan fingerprinting.
