Job Description

The mission of the ACS Education and Career Development unit is to serve learners and educators by building communities and providing effective chemistry education products, services, and information. The unit provides programs and services for teachers and students from kindergarten through graduate school.

The Student Experiences office oversees the ACS Scholarship portfolio, Project SEED, and LEADS programming, ensuring deliverables, providing professional development and mentorship opportunities, and cross-collaborating with other ACS units and external partners.

ACS Scholarships Portfolio is a renewable portfolio of scholarships for undergraduates in the chemical sciences. Project SEED is a high school summer research fellowship program designed for students from low-income households. LEADS is a 3-day event focused on preparing high-potential early-career professionals and students for successful and impactful careers in the chemical enterprise. This event brings together highly esteemed chemists, scientists, professionals, and Nobel Laureates for networking, self-reflection, career exploration, mentoring, and technical discussions.

The Sr Grants Administrator of Undergraduate Scholarships in the ACS Student Experiences leads scholarship operations, including disbursements and communication with students and university administration. The position will be responsible for regular check-ins, performance reviews, and identifying professional development for staff. The incumbent will work with scholarship staff to ensure the needs of scholarship recipients are addressed by ACS programs, products, and services. The position reports to the Portfolio Manager of the Undergraduate Scholarship Portfolio. This position will collaborate with internal units and external organizations as needed to advance ACS's strategic interests and contribute to other Student Experiences as well as ACS-wide initiatives as needed.


Position Accountabilities:

  1. Oversee day-to-day operations of the Undergraduate Scholarship Portfolio.
  2. Tracks and monitors all financial awards and scholarship activities and reporting, including initiating new scholarships, grants, payments, project monitoring, and closeout.
  3. Manages application lifecycle processes, reviewer processes, and grants management, financial management, recordkeeping, operational systems, and compliance.
  4. Manages communication and relationships with institutional contacts such as university bursar, financial aid offices, scholarship coordinators, and academic advisors to coordinate scholarship logistics and student support.
  5. Collaboratively works with units and stakeholders to support reviewer processes and training as well as support student access to professional development and educational resources.
  6. Monitors the office budget; manages contracts and invoice payments.
  7. Completes special projects as required.

Education/Experience/Technical Knowledge

Bachelor’s degree with experience in scholarship or grants management, editing, professional development, people and program management; Advanced degree preferred. 7+ years of related experience. Working knowledge of managing the lifecycle of a scholarship. Excellent communication, organizational, verbal, written, data-driven, and analytical skills are desired. The ability to think strategically, solutions-focused, demonstrate responsibility, diligence, timeliness, responsiveness, and commitment are a must. Experience facilitating workshops, leading strategic planning, and managing data is a plus. Technical knowledge required: Microsoft Office, Foundant, Qualtrics, data analysis, Salesforce, Excel, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Acrobat. Ability to travel for planned meetings and events up to 5-10% of the time.

This position will be primarily based in the Washington D.C. office. ACS employees work a hybrid work schedule, consisting of working onsite, three days per week. ACS employees are in the office on Tuesday and Wednesday with the third in-office day scheduled in consultation with the manager. While always welcome to work in the office, employees may work the other two days of the week from a location of their choice. New employees are immediately eligible for this hybrid work arrangement. ACS offers re-location assistance, if applicable.

This role is based in our Washington, DC office. A reasonable rate of base compensation for this position is $90,000- $100,000per year.
