What will you do?

A day in the life of a Product Director at Altra looks a little like this.

This role is responsible for leading the seasonal and long-term strategy and execution of Altra’s global footwear product line as the brand continues to grow and expand its product offering. Reporting to the Head of Product and Merchandising, the Product Director partners closely with Merchandising, Design, Development, Sourcing, Marketing, Sales, and key external partners to bring consumer-led, innovative product solutions to market and ensure alignment across the product creation process.

Key responsibilities for the role:

  • Oversee the Product strategy for Altra.
  • Provide leadership for the Triad teams as the consumer, market, and business expert during the footwear creation process, while ensuring key go to market calendar milestones are met.
  • Identify and capitalize on opportunities for product innovation. Partner regularly with the Merch Director.
  • Foster a highly collaborative working relationship across all departments and with key external stakeholders.
  • Lead and manage a team of product managers
  • Be the ‘authority’ on the Altra consumer mindset, motivations, product needs/wants and shopping behaviors.
  • Monitor running trends in the industry and implement creative strategies to stay ahead of the competition.
  • Manage external and sourcing relationships enabling the execution of Altra’s product innovation agenda.
  • Lead pre-season processes setting financial and forecasting targets in partnership with Merch Director.
  • Lead architect and motivator: ensure a highly collaborative triad process and interaction and shared ownership of entire project, from brief to design to prototypes to production.
  • Partner to lead product presentations at key internal meetings and with key accounts.
  • Empower teammates and triads to perform their jobs at a high level. Demonstrate empathy for each function.
  • See beyond the footwear team, understand the impact across functions within the company and connect the dots to create alignment and ensure efficiencies.
  • Regularly travel domestically and internationally to ensure Brand product direction tracks with high-level trends influencing Altra’s competitive space and categories.

What do you need to succeed?

We all have unique skills that we bring to work and celebrate every day. For this role, there are foundation skills you’ll need to succeed and excel. Additionally, while formal education in a related field is great to have, we are most interested in your 10 years of experience in product development, design, and innovation, as well as a firm understanding of the running industry.

The foundation skills you will need in this position are:

  • Ability to drive vision and strategy across functions while respecting the balance of competing interests.
  • Proven ability to capture consumer insights and translate into compelling product solutions.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability, including ability to motivate and mentor others.
  • Proven track record of developing and launching successful and innovative products.
  • Strong understanding of the Footwear product creation and story-telling process.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Innovative in thought with proven ability to utilize vision to drive concepts to new space.
  • Calm under pressure
  • Strong presentation and interpersonal communication skills

Hiring Range:

$155,520.00 USD - $194,400.00 USD annually

Incentive Potential: This position is eligible for additional compensation awards that may include an annual incentive plan, sales incentive, or commission potential. Specific details of the additional compensation eligibility for this position will be provided during the recruiting and interview process.
