About the Role

Interested in using data to support business planning, capital portfolio governance, and operational decision-making?

AltaGas is seeking a Business Analytics & Planning Co-op Student to join our Operations Planning & Analysis team. In this role, you'll support the management of the Midstream Maintenance Capital (MCAP) portfolio, G&A planning and governance, reporting, forecasting, and analytics initiatives that help business leaders make informed decisions across the organization.

You will work with operational, financial, workforce, and capital portfolio data to support planning processes, improve reporting accuracy, and provide meaningful business insights. This role is ideal for students who enjoy working with data, collaborating with stakeholders, building reports and dashboards, and contributing to process improvement initiatives.

Working closely with Operations, Engineering, Finance, and Corporate teams, you'll gain hands-on experience supporting capital governance, business planning, demand planning, and continuous improvement initiatives across the business.

What You'll Do

Capital Portfolio Governance & Planning

• Support the administration and governance of the Midstream Maintenance Capital (MCAP) portfolio.
• Assist in maintaining capital portfolio databases containing actual and forecast spending information.
• Help prepare and organize supporting documentation for Authorizations for Expenditure (AFEs).
• Track portfolio performance metrics and maintain reporting packages for capital programs.
• Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and Finance teams to ensure capital information is complete, accurate, and up to date.
• Support portfolio reviews, forecasting activities, and investment planning discussions.

Reporting & Analytics

• Support the maintenance, validation, and enhancement of Power BI dashboards and reports.
• Create visualizations, summaries, and presentations that communicate key business insights to leadership teams.
• Analyze data from multiple systems and sources to identify trends and opportunities.
• Assist in investigating reporting discrepancies and data quality issues.
• Maintain reporting documentation, business definitions, and data dictionaries.
• Help prepare recurring operational, financial, and management reporting packages.

G&A Governance & Financial Planning

• Support G&A planning, reporting, and governance processes.
• Assist with labour allocation analysis across operating assets and capital projects.
• Help gather, compile, and organize planning inputs from stakeholders.
• Perform variance and trend analysis to identify risks and opportunities.
• Maintain planning templates, documentation, and supporting analysis.

Demand Planning & Continuous Improvement

• Support the development of demand planning and integrated planning processes.
• Assist with data collection, validation, analysis, and reporting related to demand planning initiatives.
• Document business processes and workflows using Microsoft Visio or similar tools.
• Support process improvement initiatives that enhance planning, governance, and reporting effectiveness.
• Contribute to projects that connect operational drivers, resource demand, and financial outcomes.

What You'll Bring

• Currently enrolled in a post-secondary degree program in Business, Economics, Business Analytics, Data Analytics, Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Science, or a related field.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work with large datasets and identify meaningful insights.
• Experience using Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, and data analysis techniques.
• Experience with Power BI and data visualization tools is considered an asset.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Curiosity and a desire to understand how operational and financial decisions are made.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent collaboration and relationship-building skills.
• Experience with JD Edwards, Workday, Power BI, or financial systems is considered an asset.
• Interest in business planning, capital investment governance, operations, or energy infrastructure is an asset.
