Job Description

Objective:

Provides allergy antigen vial preparation by performing the following duties.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Reviews the Allergy Lab Orders

  • Mixes the patient specific antigen(s) documenting each component in the mixing room database.

  • Assigns the vial a unique identification number which begins with the medical record number followed by – 0X to designate the vial sequence.

  • Prints out a label(s) for the vial(s) that have the patient’s name, DOB, and unique identification number, clinic location and attach it to the vial.

  • Prints out and laminate a patient identification card which includes the patient’s name DOB, unique identification number and ordering physician.

  • Creates a claim and enter the charges into ECW to bill for the vial(s)

  • Enters the vial information into the immunization section of ECW including the unique vial number, number of doses, expiration date and doses instructions in the comments field along with the date and her initials.

  • The Allergy Nurse validates the vial components and the vial information and dosing information by adding her initials to the comments field.

  • Transports the vial(s) to the office where treatment will occur. The first treatment will occur at the testing site.

  • With the first delivery, the Allergy Technician will also deliver the patient’s identification card. On the first visit the Allergy Nurse will confirm the patient identification information on the card is correct with the patient and instruct the patient that the card must be presented every time the patient comes for treatment.

  • Picks up the vial(s) from the testing site and transport it to the ongoing treatment site if it is different and note that move in the mixing room database.

  • Runs weekly reports on all vials and will perform inventory at each location with each delivery including confirmation of remaining doses, expiration date and reviews refrigerator temperature logs.

  • Upholds the code of conduct and compliance policies.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Allergy Mixing Technician I

    • High School Diploma or GED

    • 1-5 years of experience as a Medical Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, or similar role.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)

  • Medical Assistant Certification (CMA, CCMA, NCMA, RMA)

  • Previous experience mixing antigens.

Work Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a fast-paced mixing lab.

  • Requires sitting and/or standing at a lab table for more than six (6) hours per day.
