07/26Provo City is looking for a part-time Airport Operations Specialist to assist in directing airside operations, maintaining Provo’s Airport Operating Certificate, and coordinating airport security, including airport security systems and facilities. What is the compensation?

Pay Rate: $24.74 per hour (Payment will be made by direct deposit.)

What will I do?

  • Regularly inspect and evaluate airport and tenant facilities, access controls, barriers, fences, staffed gates, and construction sites for TSA compliance.

  • Execute airport operating certification requirements and plans, including the Airport Certification Manual, Airport Security Plan, Wildlife Maintenance Plan, Snow and Ice Plan, Access Control Plan, Airport Emergency Plan and other federally mandated plans.

  • Identify, assess, and determine security risks.

  • Ensure all airport electrical systems and equipment, radio equipment, landing direction indicator, access gates, and other equipment are fully operational 24/7.

  • Handle, inspect, maintain, and schedule tool maintenance, repairs, usage and inventory.

  • Receive and process various applications and requests for services, including Security Identification Display Area, Air Operations Area, Sterile Area, or Secured Area access.

  • Train security employees.

  • Regularly communicate with and assist Air Traffic Control Tower, passengers, City employees, airline personnel, contractors, and the public on various issues.

  • May act as lead Airport Security Coordinator for commercial airline flights.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

What requirements do I need to apply?

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).

  • Three years of progressively responsible maintenance and heavy equipment experience.

  • Department of Homeland Security background check required.

  • Airport Security Coordinator trainingand Airport Inspector and Airport Wildlife Hazard Management on-the-job training completion required within one month of hire.

  • Must obtain and hold an Airport Blue SIDA Badge during employment.

  • Airport experience preferred.

What is the schedule?

This position is 25 hours a week, Monday through Friday. Actual schedule to be determined by the hiring manager.

What are the environmental and physical factors?

This position requires significant physical activity including walking, lifting to 50 lbs., stooping, pushing, pulling, and driving. Requires sitting at work station for long periods. This position includes exposure to bad weather conditions, hazardous materials, chemicals, fumes, and prolonged high noise levels. Must drive on a controlled airfield and walk through construction/development project areas. May periodically include exposure to high-stress situations or environment, including contact with the public, tenants, or others in confrontational or uncomfortable circumstances.

What is the selection process?

If selected for hire, candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
