Job Description

This position is responsible for performing skilled electrical work, preventive maintenance and repairs of runway and taxiway lighting along with all airport buildings inside & outside within the guidelines of supervisory instructions, general office procedures, federal and state laws, and airport policies and procedures. Maintenance will include all disciplines beyond electrical when the need arises. This position reports to the Airside Maintenance Supervisor or other designated person and works with the public, pilots, commercial aircraft station manager(s), emergency response personnel, and co-workers to provide support.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on air conditioners/heat pumps, electrical heater/gas heaters, baggage belts, electrical doors, and installed electrical items; replaces defective wall outlets and switches; repairs lighting systems.
  • Maintains and repairs runway, taxiway, and ramp lighting systems. Inspects all runways, taxiways, and ramps for surface problems and repairs as required.
  • Supports other maintenance personnel with electrical maintenance and trains designated subordinate personnel.
  • Maintains an adequate supply of spare parts to perform emergency repairs.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES MIGHT INCLUDE:

  • Knowledge of required lighting standards in accordance with the FAA.
  • Repair of ballast type and L.E.D. lighting fixtures inside the building as well as on the airfield.
  • Installing new circuits using metal raceways or cables.
  • Troubleshooting baggage belt systems, motor controllers, PLC, and relay logic control wiring.

Qualifications

Required minimum qualifications:

Education: High school diploma, GED

Experience: Five (5) years in similar position or sufficient experience to perform principal duties and responsibilities.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to read blueprints of various trades including electrical Ladder Diagrams.
  • Ability to work safely with voltages of 24, 120, 208, 240, 277, 480 single and three phase.
  • Knowledge of fire alarm systems and security door systems.
  • Ability to operate scissor type lift, fork lift, and bucket truck.
  • Good communications skills, both oral and written. Ability to use computer workstation for data input to CMMS system.
  • Knowledge of current NFPA 70 electrical code.
  • Knowledge of motor starters, relays, contactors, limit switches, photo sensors, and various switch mechanisms.
  • Knowledge of lighting systems and PLC’s.

Certification Preferred: Class I or Class II Electrical Contractor License issued by the State of Georgia. Ability to maintain this license throughout employment if presently possess.

This position requires:

  • Must pass criminal history record check and security threat assessment.
  • Must maintain appropriate security status at all times.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license at all times to drive City of Augusta vehicles.
  • This position requires staff call up in an emergency situation.

  • Physical Abilities: Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and prolonged standing, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
  • Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, heights, confined spaces, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, water hazards or rude/irate customers.
