Airport Assistant General Manager II, Aeronautical Revenue Division

Salary range: $142,778.88-$189,499.00

General Description and Classification Standards

The Airport Assistant General Manager II (“AGM”) reports to the Airport Deputy General Manager & Chief Revenue Officer. The AGM role has direct oversight of multiple Airport business units within the Office of Revenue Development & Management, including (without limitation) airline affairs, commercial properties, and terminal management.

The AGM will play a critical team role in defining and implementing strategies and initiatives to maximize aeronautical revenue and enhance the customer experience in accordance with Airport policies and the strategy business plan. Specifically, the AGM will assist in leading / directing the day-to-day strategic and business initiatives related to growing aeronautical revenue activities; provide guidance and expertise for multiple specialized aeronautical and commercial functions; allocate and manage budgeted resources; establish processes and procedures to maintain efficiency within assigned business units; oversee multiple director and/or manager-level positions; provide leadership, guidance, and coaching to team members; and inspire a collaborative culture that is high performing and delivers results.

This is a senior level position within the Hartsfield-Jackson leadership structure.

Supervision Received

Able to work effectively with minimum supervision. Direction received is very general and focuses more both immediate and strategically planned objectives. This is a policy-advisory level of management.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

In conjunction with the Chief Revenue Officer, strategically leads airline affairs and all aeronautical commercial development and management activities and initiatives within the airport.

Directs assigned functions at the Airport through subordinate directors and managers for airline affairs, commercial property management, commercial real estate, terminal operation and management, and other aeronautical revenue general activities.

Stays apprised of industry and consumer trends to develop strategic direction and identifies opportunities to optimize revenues and enhance customer satisfaction, as well as to retain or generate additional revenue in each of the lines mentioned above of businesses/categories.

Identifies and promotes the highest and best use of airport properties and spaces to maximize airport revenue.

Manages collaboration with business peers/partners within other Offices, Divisions, and Business Units at the Airport.

Collaborates with internal stakeholders on key projects, such as master plan, capital plan, construction projects, and contract audits.

Prepares and presents periodic reports on Division performance.

Prepares, reviews and implements detailed operating plans including, but not limited fiscal year budget plans, departmental/divisional strategic plans, operational plans and departmental policies for external/internal stakeholders.

In coordination with the Department of Procurement and the Department of Law, direct, develop, and manage the negotiation and management of Airport leases and agreements within the Office.

Develops and cultivates relationships and stakeholder policies and programs with communication to the Chief Revenue Officer, the General Manager, the Mayor's Office and the Atlanta City Council.

Selects, manages, and develops leadership talent for units managed. Provides leadership, guidance and coaching on an ongoing basis to ensure high performance and produce results. Oversight of division’s success plans and leadership needs including development of future leaders and candidates for higher level positions. Provides both formal and informal feedback to divisional team members.

With respect to areas of responsibility, implements standards, remains in compliance, regulations, policies and procedures set forth by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the State of Georgia, the City of Atlanta, and other international, federal, state, and local entities.

Establishes good working relationships with all Airport leadership, regulatory representatives, Airport stakeholders, local governments, and any other pertinent organizations with respect to the areas assigned.

Serves as a member of the senior management team and provides significant input into overall strategic, business, and financial plans.

Attends meetings, functions, and events.

Decision Making

AGM exercises sound judgment in planning, analyzing, and implementing initiatives, making decisions regarding resource allocation within business units, coordinating and supervising team members, developing policies, procedures, and processes, handling difficult situations with tact and diplomacy, and escalating matters to leadership. AGM also has input in overall Airport strategic priorities.

Leadership Provided

Position has directional authority over a group of seasoned directors or managers and provides high level coaching and development for direct subordinates and team members within assigned business units.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of Aeronautical Revenue Division business units - Airline Affairs, Commercial Property Management, Commercial Real Estate, and Terminal Management.

Senior-level leadership and ability to cultivate interdepartmental talent.

Knowledge of Airport regulations, codes, and policies for governing commercial entities and programs.

Strong analytical and presentation skills with understanding of Airport industry and commercial and financial policies; strong personnel management skills; exceptional skills in communicating and listening to effectively convey information verbally and in writing.

Ability to organize and direct programs and resources involved in areas including but not limited to commercial development, lease negotiation, contract management, communication, stakeholder engagement and Airport- impacted community relations Supervise, train and evaluate the performance and professional development of assigned personnel.

Collaborate with internal and external stakeholder groups on the research, development and implementation of revenue-generating Airport programs, projects and functions.

Qualifications - External

Minimum Qualifications - Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in business/public administration, aviation management, or a related area.

Minimum of (10) years of management experience commercial development, business management, aviation services and/or related fields.

Preferred Education & Experience

Master’s degree in business management, commercial development, aviation services/industry, transportation and/or related assignments.

Licensures and Certifications

None required in general.
