This position has a base compensation range of USD 180,000.00 to USD 220,000.00. The Airfreight Director of Operations & Procurement, Americas is responsible for executing Hellmann global carrier strategy, optimizing carrier performance and ensuring cost effective procurement. Ideal candidate is responsible for ensuring the comprehensive integrity of service delivery regarding operational effectiveness, regulatory compliance and economic value delivery within the Airfreight Americas network. This role will coordinate all Airfreight-related direct procurement efforts including local commercial capacity agreements (BSA’s). Other responsibilities include the local management of the preferred carrier program and ongoing cost optimization, both on the airline and non-airline suppliers (including trucking and warehouse).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy & Steering:
Execute a global carrier strategy and incentive program, ensuring alignment and execution across all AF AMCS hubs and gateways in exports and imports
Directing and controlling local capacity procurement with preferred and non-preferred carriers
Ensuring overall operational responsibility for all AF AMCS hubs and gateways in exports and imports
Assuming responsibility for the control and monitoring of airfreight services, performance and costs
Ensuring overall origin-to-destination service delivery, including correct and cost-efficient ground handling, warehousing and trucking operations
Safeguard cost optimization for all airline and non-airline suppliers, implementing strategies to reduce costs while maintaining high service quality
Directing and controlling the implementation of approved operations structures and processes to support and achieve the business objectives
Drive continuous cost and service improvement efforts with suppliers through KPI-based quality management
Define and maintain a carrier scorecard, and prepare monthly reporting packages on carrier statistics, space transparency, and quality KPIs
Conduct regular business reviews (monthly, quarterly, yearly) with core partners to evaluate performance and compliance
Ensuring supervision and control of operations functions in accordance with standards defined in the companies’ global standard operating procedure and applicable external regulations (e.g. ICAO, TAPA, HSSE etc.)
Organize and participate in local airline events (e.g., CNS and Air Cargo Americas)
Be in charge of our CSP (Central Steering Procurement) exercise from a AMCS perspective, representing AMCS in global and regional CSP meetings
Leadership:
Define succession/replacement, recruiting, and personnel development needs for direct reports and coordinate with HR
Product Development & Pricing:
Establish and nurture strong relations with airlines at the regional level to ensure we maintain the best market conditions that support client and trade development targets
Negotiate and manage local agreements in line with global policies and regional guidance
Drive continuous cost and service improvement efforts with carriers (airlines and trucking providers), based on KPI management
Operations:
Act as the regional escalation point of contact for procurement issues with carriers
Issuing operational and procurement directives to all AF units on a regional level
Operational process engineering and adjustments
Developing and maintaining initial and recurrent operational training program
Developing standard operating procedures
Tariff development
Developing customer-facing operations strategies in alignment with local sales
System Enhancement and Digital Solutions:
Identify and implement IT improvements and digital solutions for product-related technologies and systems
Other:
Promote a culture of high performance to ensure that employees work well together and are fully engaged
Ensure effective cross functional relationships with executive leadership team colleagues to promote an engaged and streamlined approach to leading the business
Oversee company operations and employee productivity, building a highly inclusive culture that ensures team members (of AF AMCS hubs and gateways in export and import) can thrive and that organizational goals are met
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Operations and Procurement supervisors of US hubs and gateways in exports and imports will have a solid line report to this role

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree (Business, Logistics and Supply Chain, Transportation, or associate field), or equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered in lieu of educational requirement.
+10 years airfreight experience with +5 years in airfreight procurement
+5 years supervisory experience
