Joby Aviation is seeking a talented leader to join our Final Integration and Assembly team. In this critical role, you will lead the assembly and integration of next-generation electric aircraft systems, from avionics and interiors to complex flight controls. You will guide a team of dedicated professionals to deliver safe, quiet, and affordable aerial transportation. Lead and manage daily shop-floor operations to execute the aircraft build plan effectively
Collaborate with the Subassembly Team Lead to synchronize delivery schedules and material flow
Design, deploy, and support specialized assembly training modules for the workforce
Monitor production outputs to ensure all build deadlines and project milestones are met
Enforce rigorous adherence to work instructions and engineering drawings across all processes
Maintain strict shop-floor standards utilizing 4S+S and Lean manufacturing methodologies
Coordinate technician allocation between work streams and manage workforce qualifications
Ensure leadership coverage during all build days, coordinating with the Build Manager as needed
Address resource imbalances and communicate staffing needs to the Build Manager
Oversee work records to ensure accuracy and run completeness
Inform the 7-day support strategy and drive continuous improvement in operational efficiency
Foster a culture of innovation, employee development, and effective team collaboration
Commit to leading by example and maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly work area
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
6+ years of relevant mechanical build, assembly, or troubleshooting experience
Deep understanding of mechanical assemblies, electronic wiring, motors, batteries, and systems
Proficiency with common mechanical assembly tools, electrical test equipment, and troubleshooting complex systems to isolate and repair faults
Ability to interpret engineering drawings/work instructions and distinguish colors
Physical ability to lift 50 lbs unassisted, stoop, bend, crawl, and maneuver in tight spaces
Familiarity with aircraft systems, hardware, and 14 CFR Part 21 standards
Experience with process development, production process improvement (Toyota Production System/Kaizen), and OSHA safety standards
Experience utilizing Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) or equivalent software
Basic computer literacy, including proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office
Prior experience as a lead, manager, or technical trainer
Associate’s degree or higher in a technical field
FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) and Inspection Authorization (IA) ratings
Experience with composite materials and data acquisition techniques (e.g., strain gauges)
Familiarity with major CAD systems, welding, or machining
Automotive maintenance experience and a Pilot’s license
Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $39-$52/hour.
