Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE
Authorize,regulateandcontrolairline flights according to governmentregulationsand Companypoliciestoexpediteand ensurethe safety of eachflight

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Preparedispatch releases for Domestic, Flag and Supplemental operations
  • Analyze and evaluate meteorological information todeterminepotential hazards to safety of flight
  • Monitor weather conditions,aircraftposition reports, and aeronautical navigation charts to evaluate flight progress
  • Recorddeparture and arrival times of flights andkeepflight informationsystemsupdated
  • Provideweather informationtoflight crews and continuouslymonitorsfor changes.  Updatethe flight crew of significant changes to weather, field conditions or AirTraffic concerns and makesrecommendations for changes to the original plan, as needed, in the interest of safety
  • Coordinatediversions with station operations to ensure the best possible passenger experience
  • Communicateall non-routineoperationsandcompleteappropriate forms and reports
  • Initiateemergency procedures and notifications when necessary
  • Coordinatewith allstakeholders forany unscheduled operationofaircraftdue toweather,airport conditions, emergency situations, etc
  • Provideassistancewithon-the-job training for new-hire dispatchers as directed
  • Performother duties as assigned or required

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Possess a valid Aircraft Dispatchercertificate
  • Basic skills operating computers and software

PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor'sdegree
  • Previousexperience in Dispatching orotherrelevantairline experience 
  • Excellent communications and customer service skills 

REGULATORY

  • Mustsuccessfullypass an FAArequired10-year work history review andcriminal background and fingerprint checks
  • Possess andmaintaina valid USor foreignpassport
  • Authorized by law to work in the United States,and able to travel freelyin and out of the United States, without restrictions
  • Mustbe able tosubmittoand pass FAA and Company mandated random drug and alcohol tests
  • Must be 23 years of age or older

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze,interpretand understand technical procedures andgovernmental regulations, sometimes quickly,and under stressful or emergency situations.  Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, crew, air traffic control, and internal associates.  Able to speak and be understood in English in person, on the phone and over a radio headset.

DECISION MAKING

Makeday-to-daydecisions used to support strategic and economic direction.  Able to process information quickly and react in a positive manner during unexpected and/orchallengingsituations.  Capable of controlling personal and emotional responsesduring periodsofhigh levelsof stress.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Able to sitor stand at a workstationfor prolonged periods
  • Able to hear clearly verbal communications in person, on the telephone, and over a headset with ambient noise

Able to work nights, evenings,weekendsand holidays to support 24-houroperations

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Permanent joblocation will belocatedin Carmel,Indiana. However,there will beaninitial,temporary duty requirementin Phoenix, AZduring training andaninitialexperience periodfor upto6months

Travel for annualOperating Familiarization Flights as required by Federal regulation

Qualifications

  • Licensed airman certification by the FAA
  • Extensive training to have earned the Aircraft Dispatcher's certificate
  • Taken and passed both an extensive oral examination and comprehensive Dispatch ADX test, administered by the FAA
  • Participates in frequent and detailed recurrent training courses regarding aircraft systems, company operations policy, meteorology and Federal Air Regulations as required by the FAA
  • Must have legal right to work in the United States, without sponsorship
