The Airfreight Operator is responsible for coordinating and managing air freight shipments from origin to destination. The role ensures that cargo is handled efficiently, documentation is accurate, and shipments comply with airline, customs, and UK regulatory requirements while meeting customer service expectations.
Coordinate import and export air freight shipments from booking to final delivery
Liaise with airlines, ground handlers, hauliers, overseas agents, and customers
Prepare and process air freight documentation including AWBs, manifests, invoices, and packing lists
Ensure shipments comply with customs, security, and aviation regulations
Track shipments and provide regular updates to customers
Handle rate enquiries, quotations, and booking confirmations
Arrange collections, deliveries, and airport transfers
Resolve operational issues such as delays, discrepancies, or damaged cargo
Maintain accurate records within freight management systems
Ensure all work complies with company procedures and UK health & safety standards
Strong organisational and multitasking skills
Excellent attention to detail
Good communication skills (written and verbal)
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Confident IT skills, including freight management systems and Microsoft Office
Customer-focused approach
Essential:
Previous experience in air freight, freight forwarding, or logistics
Understanding of air freight processes (imports, exports, or both)
Desirable:
Knowledge of customs procedures and documentation
Familiarity with airline booking systems
Experience handling time-critical or special cargo (e.g. pharma, dangerous goods)
Dangerous Goods (IATA) certification
Proactive and reliable
Able to work independently and as part of a team
Calm and solutions-focused
Professional and adaptable
