Job Description
Apple is where individual imaginations gather together, committing to the values that lead to great work. Every new product we build, service we create, or Apple Store experience we deliver is the result of us making each other's ideas stronger. That happens because every one of us shares a belief that we can make something wonderful and share it with the world, changing lives for the better. It's the diversity of our people and their thinking that inspires the innovation that runs through everything we do. When we bring everybody in, we can do the best work of our lives. Here, you'll do more than join something — you'll add something.
As part of Apple's central data annotation engineering team, you will help shape the interfaces through which human expertise and machine intelligence meet. Our platform powers high-quality dataset creation and annotation across every vertical at Apple — from Siri to Photos, from iPhone to Vision Pro. We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer who brings genuine depth in frontend engineering and a designer's sensibility: someone who executes with precision, elevates the people and work around them, and cares as much about how something feels as how it's built.
The AIML Annotation Platform provides the tools, frameworks, and services that make large-scale, privacy-focused data annotation possible across Apple. As a Senior Software Engineer on our team, you will be a key contributor to the web frontend of our annotation and quality platform — a complex, multi-role product used daily by annotators, quality analysts, ML engineers, and internal partners worldwide.
You have a mature eye for design systems. You can articulate why a pattern works, spot where an evolving product breaks established conventions, and translate visual and interaction language into guidance that an engineering team can actually use. You are as comfortable reasoning through a component architecture as you are in a design critique — and you bring both rigour and taste to each. That same rigor extends to your engineering craft — you hold a high bar for performance, testing, and architectural soundness in everything you ship.
You work well in interdisciplinary settings. You have led frontend work in cross-functional teams, coordinating across design, backend, and product stakeholders — not as the sole contributor, but as the person who brought the pieces together.
Preferred Qualifications
Solid testing practices across unit, integration, and end-to-end layers, plus grounding in web accessibility (e.g. WCAG) and frontend security best practices as baseline engineering hygiene
A working relationship with product design that goes beyond handoff — able to engage at the design stage, push back constructively, and implement pixel-perfect interfaces from high-fidelity specifications
Strong eye for visual design and interaction patterns, with experience contributing to design systems or component libraries used across multiple teams
Experience leading the frontend workstream of cross-functional projects in interdisciplinary settings (design, backend, PM, ML), coordinating across multiple engineers and stakeholders
Experience building annotation, task-editor, or review-tool UIs, or other complex, data-dense productivity interfaces
Experience with agentic UI patterns — interfaces driven by streaming model outputs, long-running async tasks, and event-driven state — including integrating LLM or agent backends into production web frontends
Strong proficiency with AI-assisted and agentic coding tools (e.g. Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to accelerate development, paired with sound judgment in reviewing and integrating generated code
Familiarity with modern frontend tooling and workflows — bundlers (Vite, webpack), testing frameworks (Vitest, Jest, Playwright), CI/CD, and Node.js/server-side JavaScript for BFF or middleware layers
Experience articulating frontend architecture or design-pattern guidance to an engineering team, or building/contributing to internal platforms and developer-facing tooling at scale
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in Computer Science, HCI, or a related field
Proven professional frontend engineering experience, with deep expertise in React and the modern JavaScript/TypeScript ecosystem
Strong command of React architecture — component design, hooks, state management, rendering optimization — and frontend performance fundamentals (bundle optimization, lazy loading, profiling) in production
Solid understanding of asynchronous data patterns (REST/GraphQL API design, WebSockets/SSE) and experience designing or contributing to backend-for-frontend (BFF) layers that mediate between UI requirements and underlying services
