Job Description
The
AI/ML Engineer
will support the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) on multiple enterprise-level artificial intelligence initiatives. This role is intended to supplement existing Information Technology Division staff capacity and provide specialized expertise necessary to meet accelerated delivery timelines. The AI/ML Engineer
will contribute to the development and deployment of an enterprise search solution, support the rollout of the Darwin AI inventory and monitoring system, assist with the implementation and testing of AI agents, and support the establishment of AI governance processes.
Responsibilities:
Build and deploy components of the enterprise search solution to improve information retrieval across DPS systems.
Assist with the configuration, rollout, and documentation of the Darwin AI inventory and monitoring system.
Support the implementation and testing of AI agents aligned to business unit needs.
Develop technical controls, documentation, and processes required for AI governance adoption.
Contribute to the development of AI agents intended to improve internal efficiency and public-facing services.
Support compliance with cybersecurity, privacy, and statewide technology policies related to AI governance.
Collaborate with existing Information Technology Division staff to meet accelerated delivery timelines.
Document processes and configurations related to enterprise AI initiatives.
Coordinate with agency staff on testing and validation of AI agent functionality.
Support ongoing monitoring activities related to the Darwin AI inventory system.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must meet all minimum qualifications.
1 year of experience building and deploying components of an enterprise search tool.
1 year of experience assisting with the configuration, rollout, and documentation of the Darwin AI inventory system.
1 year of experience supporting implementation and testing of AI agents aligned to business unit needs.
1 year of experience developing technical controls, documentation, and processes required for AI governance adoption.
Additional Requirements:

Local candidates only; must currently reside within 50 miles of the Austin, Texas work location.
May be required to work outside normal business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, excluding State holidays.
Work Arrangement:
Hybrid – On Site and Telework.
