Across local authorities, combined authorities and the devolved administrations of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, leaders are seeking innovative ways to improve workforce productivity, enhance employee experience, reduce administrative burden and unlock frontline capacity through responsible adoption of AI — all while operating under sustained financial pressure and rising demand for statutory services.

We're seeking an AI Workforce Solution Area Specialist to drive Microsoft's AI Workforce business across a portfolio of local and devolved government accounts. This is a consultative, value-led, quota-carrying sales role. You'll start from each organisation's real challenges — stretched budgets, recruitment and retention gaps, rising service demand, and the shift to people and AI agents working side by side — and translate them into solutions customers choose to buy, scale, and stand behind.

You'll build trusted relationships with digital, workforce and transformation leaders, and work alongside Microsoft's technical, consulting, partner and customer success teams to turn ambition into adopted deployments. It's a role at the frontier of AI: you'll sell into territory that has no established playbook, and you'll grow fast at the intersection of public service and technology.

Responsibilities

• Own and grow your accounts across the local and devolved government ecosystem — building pipeline and expanding Microsoft's AI Workforce footprint in line with customer priorities and local transformation objectives.
• Build trusted relationships with digital, workforce, transformation and technology leaders, and engage executive and member-level stakeholders as opportunities require.
• Identify, qualify, advance and close AI Workforce opportunities spanning Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Chat, Agents, Frontline Worker and Next Generation Workplace solutions.
• Lead value-based conversations that build the case for investment — demonstrating measurable productivity, workforce, service and citizen outcomes, and clear value for money.
• Work through public sector buying routes — frameworks, competitive tendering, business cases and cabinet or committee approval — to convert interest into contracted, funded programmes.
• Orchestrate the wider Microsoft team across Customer Success, Technical Specialists, FastTrack, Consulting and Partner organisations to progress deals and land successful adoption.
• Drive adoption, utilisation and expansion, making sure public investment translates into outcomes customers can evidence.
• Use AI-driven market intelligence to spot white space, shape your pursuit strategy, and focus on the opportunities with the greatest impact.
• Share what you learn — feeding customer insight, sector trends and competitive intelligence back into Microsoft, and sharing repeatable approaches with colleagues across the team.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Experience in technology sales, solution or services selling, or account management — or equivalent experience gained through other routes.
• Experience selling into or working alongside local government, devolved administrations or the wider public sector or another publicly accountable, regulated environment.
• Familiarity with public sector buying routes, frameworks, tenders, business cases and value-for-money assessment

Preferred Qualifications:

• A consultative selling style — you build trust, understand deeply before you pitch, and win by solving real customer problems rather than pushing product.
• Experience carrying commercial targets or owning account growth, in whatever form that has taken.
• A talent for translating complex or emerging technology into clear business value, service improvement and citizen outcomes.
• Genuine curiosity about AI and the future of work, and the confidence to sell in fast-moving, ambiguous situations.
• Awareness of governance, risk, security, data protection and transparency considerations relevant to public bodies.
• Experience working opportunities with multiple stakeholders, including at executive or elected-member level.

Solution Area Specialists IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across United Kingdom is £ 74,400.00 - £ 105,900.00 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.

Solution Area Specialists IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across United Kingdom is £ 95,300.00 - £ 136,100.00 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
