
AI Strategy and Execution Manager

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a unique global network of policy research centers, is seeking a full-time AI Strategy and Execution Manager based in Washington, DC to oversee Carnegie's AI strategy across all its research programs and operational departments, in the U.S. and for Carnegie's global centers. This is a one-year position with the possibility of extension depending on funding. This position will report to the Chief Operating Officer and will work closely with other members of senior management.
Major areas of responsibility will include developing, implementing, and overseeing AI governance and policy; education and enablement; and strategy and execution. This will include leading Carnegie's AI engagement and identifying opportunities, designing pilots, and driving and managing implementation across programs and operational departments. The selected candidate will lead a steering committee and engage with senior management to develop and execute priority initiatives; convene key stakeholders across Carnegie; and identify opportunities to further modernize and improve Carnegie's operational processes; and advise on organizational challenges related to AI.
The selected candidate will lead Carnegie-wide implementation on AI in the U.S. and across global centers. This includes developing, overseeing, and supervising training sessions and developing training materials; liaising with other peer institutions on their AI implementation; formulating, drafting, and implementing Carnegie's AI-related policies; working with Carnegie's Chief Information Officer and Information Technology office to address security considerations; with IT, evaluating AI tools, vetting, and securing vendors; and advising Carnegie leadership regarding AI's impact and role at Carnegie.
Candidates must have 5 or more years of progressive and/or related experience and deep familiarity with AI tools including strengths, capabilities, limitations, and risks as well as the ability to translate that knowledge for non-technical audiences. The ability to apply AI knowledge to a think tank atmosphere and a strategic mindset regarding how to best implement AI usage are both essential. The selected candidate will be able to build trust across the institution, understand the resource constraints of a think tank, have a proactive mindset, be comfortable working directly with senior leaders across the organization, and possess the ability to implement and manage strategic AI-related objectives. The selected candidate will also have strong judgment on governance and policy matters, including risk assessment and privacy considerations. They will also have a demonstrated track record of building and executing cross-functional projects in complex organizations.
Located in Dupont Circle, we offer an outstanding benefits package. This is not a virtual position. Carnegie employees are required to work in the office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and may work from home on most Mondays and Fridays.
