In this 12-month fixed term opportunity we’re seeking an innovative AI Solutions Lead to shape and deliver AI-enabled solutions that drive meaningful organisational impact. Working across clinical, operational, and corporate teams, you’ll lead AI strategy, governance, and solution delivery while ensuring safe, ethical, and scalable use of AI technologies. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on collaboration to identify opportunities, deliver measurable value, and build organisational capability in AI across a complex and purpose-driven environment.

In this position, you will:

  • Develop and lead the organisation’s AI roadmap, ensuring alignment with enterprise strategy, governance, security, privacy, and NZ health sector compliance requirements.
  • Design and deliver scalable AI solutions across machine learning, automation, and generative AI, aligned to enterprise standards and reusable platforms.
  • Partner with business units to identify opportunities, translate challenges into AI-enabled solutions, and deliver measurable value outcomes.
  • Work closely with data teams to support strong data foundations, system integration, interoperability, and operational AI workflows.
  • Build organisational AI capability through leadership, mentoring, training, and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Manage emerging technologies, vendors, and external partners while evaluating AI tools, platforms, and services.
  • Provide technical oversight and ongoing support for AI solutions in production, including continuous improvement and troubleshooting.
  • Contribute to a safe, collaborative, and resilient workplace by supporting business continuity, risk management, and continuous service improvement.

Qualifications

Ko wai koe - About you:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in technology, data science, or related discipline
  • 8–10+ years’ experience in technology, data, or solution architecture roles
  • Proven experience delivering AI, machine learning, or advanced analytics solutions
  • Strong understanding of data architecture, integration, and governance
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms and AI services
  • Experience working with complex enterprise systems
  • Understanding of responsible AI, privacy, and ethics considerations

Desirable

  • Experience in the NZ health or public sector desirable
  • Knowledge of data standards (e.g. HL7, FHIR)
  • Experience with MLOps, model lifecycle management, and automation
  • Familiarity with agile delivery methodologies
  • Knowledge and appreciation of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application for St John in the community and health-care environments
