P&C Digital & Technology RE is looking for an experienced AI Engineering Lead to shape, scale, and deliver high-impact AI products across the organization. This is a senior, hands-on lead role for someone who combines deep technical expertise with the ability to lead teams, set engineering direction, and partner closely with product and functional stakeholders.

We create global, AI-driven products that address some of the most complex risk challenges in the world. While this role is a people and technical leadership position, it requires a strong engineering mindset: you are expected to deeply understand the systems your teams build and to engage directly with architecture, design, and code when needed.

What you will do

As an AI Engineering Lead, you will be responsible for the technical excellence, technical delivery quality, and professional growth of AI engineers working on production-grade AI systems. You will work closely with AI Product Leads and business partners to translate strategic objectives into robust, scalable solutions.

If you join us, you will for example:

• Lead and mentor a team of senior engineers, setting clear technical standards and fostering a culture of engineering excellence, learning, and ownership
• Act as a hands-on technical authority for AI systems, with the ability to review, challenge, and contribute to architecture, code, and implementation decisions
• Drive the design and implementation of scalable AI and ML platforms, including MLOps, data pipelines, and cloud-native infrastructure
• Partner with AI Delivery Leads and product or functional stakeholders to ensure solutions are technically sound, deliver business value, and can be operated reliably at scale
• Oversee the end-to-end delivery lifecycle of the products, from experimentation and prototyping through deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement
• Guide teams in applying modern AI techniques, including Generative AI, while ensuring robustness, security, explainability, and compliance

About you

In order to be successful in the role, you bring:

• A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience
• Extensive experience designing, building, and operating production-grade AI or ML systems
• Strong proficiency in Python (or similar languages) and a deep understanding of good software engineering principles
• Solid hands-on knowledge of MLOps practices, including CI/CD for ML, model monitoring, versioning, and lifecycle management
• Deep understanding of cloud-native architectures, distributed systems, and large-scale data processing
• Proven experience in technical leadership roles, including mentoring engineers and guiding complex technical decisions

It is a strong plus if you also have:

• Experience leading AI or data engineering teams in a large, complex organization
• Experience with Generative AI, NLP, or other advanced AI techniques applied in real-world products
• Experience in the Insurance or Re-insurance industry

For Switzerland, the base salary range for this position is between CHF 128,000 and CHF 192,000 (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers: ​

· the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role,​

· the applicant's own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience.​

In addition to your base salary, Swiss Re offers an attractive performance-based variable compensation component, designed to recognise your achievements. Further you will enjoy a variety of global and location specific benefits.​
