JOB POSITION

Carelon Global Solutions India is seeking a Software Engineer III - AI to join our team.

JOB RESPONSIBILITY

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (data scientists, product managers, engineers) to acquire, process, and manage data for AI/ML model integration and improvement.
• Build and maintain reliable, scalable data pipelines to support AI/ML model training and inference.
• Debug and optimize ML models and pipelines, supporting performance tuning and quality validation.
• Deploy and operate ML services in containerized environments (Docker/Kubernetes), supporting standard configurations for scalable workloads.
• Assist in building LLM inference services and APIs, applying established best practices for efficient deployment.
• Contribute to prompt engineering and LLM adaptation efforts (prompting, evaluation, and limited fine-tuning) for semantic search and chatbot use cases.
• Maintain documentation for models, experiments, and validations using version control and experiment tracking tools (e.g., Git, MLflow, DVC) under team standards.
• Implement and test model optimization approaches (e.g., quantization/distillation) with guidance, helping improve latency/cost where applicable.
• Develop and enhance NLP solutions (text classification, sentiment analysis, topic modeling) and support model evaluation and monitoring.
• Stay current with AI/ML tools and frameworks; share learnings and follow team-defined engineering standards and reusable patterns.
• Support development of AI solutions in healthcare by contributing to domain adaptation, testing, and production deployment activities.

QUALIFICATION

Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree in any Engineering Stream
Specialized training, certifications, and/or other special requirements: Nice to have
Preferred education: Computer Science/Engineering – AI or Data Science stream

EXPERIENCE

Minimum relevant experience - 5+ years in AI Engineering
Preferred total experience – 8 years

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

Technical Skills:

• Strong proficiency in Python with hands-on use of data science libraries (NumPy, Pandas, scikit-learn) and exposure to deep learning frameworks (PyTorch and/or TensorFlow).
• Working experience with LLM tooling/frameworks (e.g., Hugging Face Transformers, LangChain) and practical prompt engineering.
• Exposure to big data processing (e.g., Spark) for large-scale analytics (hands-on or strong understanding).
• Version control and basic experiment tracking using Git and MLflow (or similar tools).
• Software Engineering & Development: Proficient in Python; familiarity with microservices concepts, unit testing, and writing maintainable code (TDD/concurrency knowledge is a plus).
• DevOps & Infrastructure: Familiar with CI/CD (GitHub Actions/Jenkins) and container orchestration basics (Docker/Kubernetes); exposure to Helm is a plus.
• LLM Infrastructure & Deployment: Ability to build and deploy LLM-powered services using FastAPI; exposure to serving frameworks (e.g., vLLM) and vector databases is a plus.
• MLOps & Deployment: Familiar with containerization for ML workloads and common model serving patterns/tools (e.g., TorchServe / TF Serving or API-based serving); awareness of automated retraining concepts.
• Cloud & Infrastructure: Working knowledge of one major cloud platform (AWS / GCP / Azure) and basic security best practices for ML systems.
• LLM Project Experience: Contributed to LLM use cases such as chatbots, summarization, classification, retrieval/semantic search, or similar applications (end-to-end ownership is a plus).
• General Skills: Python, SQL, ML framework familiarity, and experience using cloud services for development/deployment.
• Ability to create/update LLD for assigned components with guidance and follow existing architecture standards.
• Experience working in microservices-based architecture (development, integration, or support).

AI Engineer – Domain Expertise

• Solid foundation in statistics, probability, linear algebra, and core ML concepts.
• Understanding of the ML/LLM development lifecycle: data prep, training/fine-tuning (basic to intermediate), evaluation, and deployment.
• Experience with feature engineering and embeddings; familiarity with dimensionality reduction techniques is a plus.
• Familiarity with experimentation fundamentals (basic A/B testing concepts, metrics, and statistical reasoning).
• Working knowledge of RAG concepts and semantic search; hands-on exposure to vector DBs is a plus.
• Familiarity with LLM optimization approaches (e.g., quantization/distillation) and when they are useful (implementation under guidance).
• Understanding of MLOps basics for deployment, monitoring, and model iteration.

AI Engineer – Professional Competencies

• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to break down ML tasks and troubleshoot issues.
• Good communication skills—able to explain approach, trade-offs, and results to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to translate business requirements into implementable ML/AI tasks with support from seniors/architects.
• Basic project execution skills: planning tasks, tracking progress, and delivering in sprints.
• Strong collaboration skills for working with cross-functional teams.
• Curiosity and willingness to learn new AI/ML tools and best practices.
• Ability to share knowledge within the team (peer learning, documentation); mentoring others is a plus but not a core expectation at this level.
