Who we’re looking for

State Street Investment Management (IM) is seeking a hands-on Automation Solution Architecture & Lead Developer (AVP) to support and drive the end-to-end development and delivery of AI-enabled Business Automation initiatives.

You will be responsible for translating business needs into scalable, composable, cloud-native and AI-enabled solutions—leveraging modern AI/GenAI patterns where appropriate—and delivering them through the full lifecycle, from design and build to testing and production release, working closely with senior engineering leadership and cross-functional teams, while contributing to the platform’s architectural evolution over time.

• Translating automation strategy and platform architecture into production-ready solutions.
• Ensuring high-quality, reliable, and secure delivery of automation use cases.
• Establishing strong engineering and solution architecture standards as the platform scales.

Your work will influence not only technology choices, but also user experience, operating cost, and delivery speed.

What you will be responsible for

• Solution architecture & technical solutions
  • Design end-to-end automation and AI-enabled solutions, covering workflow orchestration, integrations, data flows, and (where needed) user interfaces.
  • Apply strong solution architecture principles, including:
    • AI-enabled and data-driven architectures
    • Cloud-native, AWS-based architectures
    • Composable architectures and reusable services
    • API-first and event-driven patterns
  • Ensure solutions are scalable, maintainable, secure, and compliant by design.
  • Make pragmatic architectural trade-offs to support timely delivery.

• Day-to-day development & delivery
  • Act as senior developer & development lead for automation initiatives, owning technical delivery end to end.
  • Work on day-to-day engineering execution:
    • Break down business requirements into technical solutions
    • Resolve technical blockers.
    • Deliver end-to-end solutions from design through production
  • Ensure solutions move smoothly from development to production, with appropriate testing, controls, and documentation.
• Platform & automation enablement
  • Build automation solutions using workflow engines, integration layers, and automation tools.
  • Support RPA, workflow orchestration, and AI-assisted automation where appropriate.
  • Contribute to reusable platform capabilities rather than one-off solutions.
  • Apply human-in-the-loop review, auditability, logging, and operational controls in automation design.
• Collaboration & stakeholder engagement
  • Work closely with the Platform Owner / Program Lead, business and operations stakeholders, analysts, and process owners.
  • Translate business problems into clear technical designs and delivery plans.
  • Communicate progress, risks, and technical trade‑offs clearly and pragmatically.
• Engineering standards & best practices
  • Establish and enforce coding standards, design patterns, and delivery discipline.
  • Promote good engineering hygiene: testing, version control, documentation, and monitoring.
  • Coach and guide engineers through design and implementation decisions.

What we value

• Strong solution architecture capability with the ability to independently design and deliver end-to-end solutions.
• Hands-on engineering contributor with a strong bias toward execution; independent delivery is a must.
• Proven track record of delivering production-grade solutions end to end.
• Strong knowledge of:
  • AI / GenAI concepts and applied patterns (e.g., prompt design, RAG, agent-style workflows), with a pragmatic approach to risk and controls
  • AWS cloud platform (core services, security, and networking concepts)
  • Modern application architectures (microservices, APIs, event-driven)
  • Composable architecture and reusable platform design
  • Python (automation scripting, APIs, and data processing)
• Ability to evaluate and compare technical approaches pragmatically.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to drive issues to resolution.
• Clear communicator with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Comfortable working in a regional / global delivery environment.

Education & preferred qualifications/skills

• Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Significant experience in:
  • System design
  • Platform or framework development
  • Cloud‑native architectures
• Experience working on:
  • Low‑code / no‑code platforms (preferred)
  • Workflow engines or automation systems (preferred)
• Experience in enterprise or large‑scale environments is a plus.
• Strong English communication skills (spoken and written).
