Your Opportunity
Under the direction of the Manager, Digital Learner Experience, the AI/Automation Solutions Developer designs, develops, deploys, and maintains AI-powered applications, machine learning models, robotic process automations (RPA), and intelligent integrations that advance the learner digital experience at Okanagan College. This role delivers end-to-end solutions that provide instant response, enable real-time decision-making, and automate Tier 0 and Tier 1 inquiries to achieve seamless, self-service interactions for learners.
Functions and Duties
- Designs, develops, and deploys conversational AI applications (chatbots, voice assistants, virtual agents) using modern NLP/LLM frameworks and cloud-based AI services.
- Build and implement RPA and workflow automation solutions to replace manual, email-driven processes and reduce administrative overhead.
- Develops and maintains integrations between AI/automation tools and enterprise platforms (e.g., Ellucian Banner, CRM, Drupal, LMS).
- Trains, fine-tunes, and deploys machine learning models to support intent recognition, sentiment analysis, and intelligent routing of inquiries.
- Designs AI-driven decision workflows for real-time student transactions (e.g., instant acceptance, transcript processing, fee payment confirmation).
- Monitors, evaluates, and optimizes AI solutions for accuracy, performance, and adoption; retrains models as required to reduce drift.
- Creates technical documentation, APIs, and solution diagrams; assists with project planning and implementation.
- Collaborate with business analysts, UX/UI designers, project coordinators, and stakeholders to identify pain points and deliver targeted automation solutions.
- Research and recommend new AI, ML, and automation technologies to advance OC’s digital experience roadmap.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- University degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related discipline, with a minimum of 2 years relevant work experience.
- Experience developing and deploying AI/ML solutions, including NLP, large language models, and conversational AI platforms.
- Hands-on experience with workflow automation or RPA tools (e.g., Power Automate).
- Strong proficiency with programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, or C#.
- Experience with enterprise system integrations, APIs, and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
- Familiarity with relational databases, data preprocessing, and analytics pipelines.
- A combination of experience and education may be considered.
Skills and Abilities
- Expertise in natural language processing, LLM fine-tuning, and conversational AI design.
- Ability to architect and deliver AI-driven solutions that integrate across enterprise systems.
- Strong understanding of workflow automation, RPA, and digital process optimization.
- Skilled in cloud-based AI deployments, microservices, and containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Knowledge of secure coding, data privacy, and ethical AI practices.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting abilities.
- Effective communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Flexible and adaptable in adopting emerging technologies and methodologies.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- High attention to detail and a solutions-driven mindset.
