Job Description

As an AI & Automation Engineer, you will join the Data Analytics team within BorgWarner’s TTT (Turbos & Thermal Technologies) Business Unit, working closely with business stakeholders, Corporate Center of Excellence teams, and external developers. You will be hands on in designing, developing, and deploying AI driven automation solutions and intelligent workflows, covering the full lifecycle from solution design to implementation and scaling across the organization.
We are seeking an experienced engineer with a strong background in Artificial Intelligence, Automation, and Digital Transformation to build robust, scalable solutions that optimize and modernize business processes.
The individual in this position has hands-on expertise with Microsoft Copilot, Power Automate, Power Apps, UiPath, and Azure AI Services or an equivalent from other providers like Amazon Bedrock Agents, Vertex AI Agent Builder, combined with strong data engineering and analytical capabilities.
This position plays a critical role in advancing digital transformation by enabling AI supported workflows, automation pipelines, and AI agents that support day to day business operations.
Additional responsibilities in this role are providing technical guidance and ensuring the stability and integrity of existing AI and automation solutions.
A broad and comprehensive knowledge of business processes will be beneficial.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Design, build, and deploy automation solutions using Power Automate, Power Apps, UiPath, and Copilot or Azure AI Services (Azure OpenAI, Cognitive Services, Document Intelligence, etc.).
• Develop and operationalize AI agents, task automation, and workflow orchestration across departments.
• Create end-to-end process automation pipelines, integrating data, APIs, RPA, AI models, and user interfaces.
• Analyze business requirements and translate them into scalable, secure, and maintainable automation solutions.
• Evaluate existing processes and identify opportunities for automation and AI enablement.
• Ensure reliability, resilience, and monitoring of automation solutions.
• Provide technical guidance and best practices to business stakeholders and citizen developers.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams like IT, Operations, Finance, Supply Chain, and Sales to understand business needs.
• Support adoption of AI & Automation solutions by providing training, documentation, and user guidance.
• Contribute to the organization's automation strategy, architecture, and governance framework.
• Defining Data integration and data storage strategies
• Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation (project charters and effective project plans), including report outs to management on project status
• Identify ways to improve data reliability, efficiency and quality
• Use data to discover tasks that can be automated and research new uses for existing data
• Communicate AI and Automation trends to others in the organization and to help the business to identify use cases
• Collaborate with members of global IT team (e.g. data architects, data scientists and the infrastructure team) on the project's goals
• Collaborate closely with third parties/vendors for the flawless execution of projects
• Assist business stakeholders across all levels in the definition of project scope and objectives and negotiate with the stakeholders to prevent scope creep
• Invest time in fully understanding business processes and departmental/organizational goals
• Ask challenging questions around business value and return-on-investment imperatives
• Develop Proof of Values with business to create scalable business value
• Identify project risks and issues with passion.
• Take responsibility for the overall success of assigned projects

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems or a related field, or equivalent experience
• 3-5 years + of related experience with automation development and AI/ML solutions or an equivalent combination of relevant practical experience
• Strong enthusiasm and implementation experience for Artificial Intelligence, AI Agents, Automation, and Digital Transformation, with hands-on or academic experience
• Strong understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs), generative AI concepts, prompt engineering, and AI-assisted workflows
• Interest or initial exposure to cloud-based AI services, such as: Google Cloud AI / Vertex AI or AWS AI & ML services (e.g., Amazon Bedrock, SageMaker, Lambda for automation scenarios)
• Programming knowledge in Python, SQL, or R, ideally applied to data analysis, automation, or AI-related tasks
• Familiarity with REST APIs, data integration concepts, or workflow orchestration is a must
• Experience or strong interest in Data Analytics, with hands-on exposure to Power BI considered a plus
• Experience working in cross-functional business environments with rapid solution deployment.
• Demonstrated success in leading automation initiatives from concept through implementation.
• Project management experience, with a focus on AI and Automation projects, preferred

Skills and Abilities

• Deep knowledge of Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps, Power BI, Copilot).
• Knowledge of Azure services (Azure AI, Azure Data Factory; Azure Functions/Azure Foundry is a plus).
• Experience with UiPath or similar RPA tools.
• Strong understanding of cloud technologies (Azure, AWS).
• Proficiency in one or more languages: SQL, Java, Python, R, C#, PowerFx, JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Experience with REST APIs, JSON, OAuth, and integration patterns.
• Understanding of ETL/ELT, data warehousing concepts, and data modeling.
• Preferred certifications:
  • Microsoft Power Platform Developer / Solution Architect
  • UiPath RPA Developer
  • Azure AI Engineer or Azure Data Engineer
• Analytical thinking: Ability to break down complex processes and identify automation opportunities.
