Description: Mahomet-Seymour CUSD #3 is seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Long-Term Substitute Teacher in Agriculture and Workplace Learning. This position will provide instruction and support to students in Workplace Learning, Horticulture Science, and Agricultural Business. The assignment combines classroom instruction with hands-on learning, student-run business operations, and community-based workplace experiences. The position will be available from approximately September 30, 2026 through the end of the semester.
Responsibilities:
- Provide instruction in workplace readiness, career exploration, employability skills, professional expectations, and workplace safety.
- Coordinate and monitor student workplace learning experiences, internships, and job-shadowing opportunities; communicate with students, families, staff, and community employers regarding placements and progress.
- Monitor student attendance, participation, performance, and workplace expectations; maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Collaborate with school staff and community partners to support successful student learning and work experiences.
- Teach Horticulture Science concepts including plant growth and identification, landscape planning and installation, hardscape techniques, horticulture business management, pricing, advertising, and sales.
- Teach Agricultural Business concepts including business management and finance, marketing and advertising, product development, sales, customer service, entrepreneurship, and business mathematics.
- Support students in the operation of the Mahomet-Seymour Ag Supply Store and Greenhouse, providing authentic experience in business management, customer service, marketing, sales, and horticulture.
Qualifications:
- Appropriate Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) or Substitute Licensure registered through ROE #9.
- Experience working with high school students and/or career and workplace learning programs preferred.
- Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to establish positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community employers.
Salary: $150 per day through day 15. Starting on day 16, long-term substitute teachers are paid the applicable daily rate coinciding with a first year teacher on the District's current salary schedule (2025-2026 Schedule is attached). At present, this rate is $236.49. The 2026-2027 Teacher Salary Schedule is still being finalized following contract negotiations and the long-term rate is subject to change.
