The University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture is a state wide campus, with faculty based on University campuses, at Research and Extension Centers and in every Arkansas county. It consists of the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station (AES) and the Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service (CES), and is home to more than 1400 employees. The Division was established in 1959 and is headed by the Vice-President for Agriculture. The Division headquarters is located in Little Rock with the rest of the University of Arkansas System Administration. Major Responsibilities include the preparation and analysis of soil and plant samples according to the applicable quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) procedures and maintaining relevant electronic and paper records. Operate and maintain computer-controlled laboratory instruments for measurement of soil and plant nitrate-nitrogen. Operate and maintain a computer-assisted soil organic matter determination system. Perform all relevant routine and preventive maintenance for the above instruments and keep relevant records. Perform analysis of soil samples on computer-controlled laboratory robotic systems for measurement of soil pH and electrical conductivity, following approved analytical and QA/QC procedures. Assist with the extraction of soil nutrients for measurements on four inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrophotometers when needed. Participate in the development, evaluation, and implementation of new soil testing procedures. Prepare chemical reagents and standards for routine soil test methods. Coordinate with other laboratory staff to ensure a timely flow of samples through the laboratory.
