Job Description:

Field Operations Support: Assists with planting, fertilizing, harvesting, and sampling of research and extension demonstration plots. Accurately maintains digital and written records related to field activities, equipment use, and plot operations.

Equipment and Vehicle Maintenance: Assists in the performance of maintenance and operation of WFREC farm equipment and vehicles. Performs minor repairs on WFREC vehicles and equipment. Conducts routine vehicle maintenance including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacement, and basic transmission servicing.

Equipment Operation and Technology Use: Operates a wide range of farm and motorized equipment, including units equipped with navigation and mapping technologies. This may include the operation of pesticide and soil amendment application equipment in accordance with applicable regulations and safety standards. Driving will be required.

The incumbent must be capable of conducting these activities independently while maintaining constant communication with the Farm Manager and/or supervisor.

Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.

Must be able to maintain Florida Driver’s License.

Must have or obtain a Commercial pesticide applicators license within 90 days of employment.


Expected Salary:

Starting at $15.80 per hour; compensation is negotiable and commensurate with experience


Required Qualifications:

None.


Preferred:

Experience in operation of large and small farm equipment to include tractors, combines, pickers, loaders, backhoes, turf care equipment, trucks and vans. Should be able to set up and operate all types of farm equipment including those with computer-based guidance systems for precision operations and record keeping. Ability to read and understand pesticide labels.

Other preferred qualifications for this position are: A high school diploma, and two years’ experience with operation of farm and construction equipment
