
Brown University invites applications for the Aga Khan Professor of Islamic Humanities, to begin July 1, 2027. Candidates will have an internationally renowned body of scholarship in the study of Islam and its humanistic traditions, and an outstanding record of teaching and mentorship of undergraduate and PhD students. The successful candidate in the current recruitment will be appointed at the rank of full professor with tenure in one of the following departments: Comparative Literature; History of Art and Architecture; or Religious Studies. We are particularly interested in candidates whose work will also connect and engage with scholars in other departments, centers, and programs on campus.
Review of applications will begin on October 15 and continue until the position is filled.
Completion of a doctoral degree in a relevant field and experience commensurate with appointment as a full professor with tenure.

The cover letter should include information on the candidate’s vision for the study of Islam within the humanities from their disciplinary perspective, research agenda and teaching, and how the applicant would contribute to the research and teaching missions of our diverse and inclusive university community.
