Job Description

The After School - School Age Child Care Site Director is responsible for the administration and operation of one after school program/ one day camp. The Site Director position will be assigned to work at a school location. The Site Director must meet all requirements to be on campus issued by federal, state, county and city government authorities. Due to the direct supervision and ratio requirements outlined by the State of California, this position will not have an option to work from home during program operational hours.

SALARY RANGE: $28.00-$30.00/hour

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensuring the delivery of high quality, safe, educational YMCA youth programming in a nurturing environment. Deliver programs and activities that align with the HEPA (healthy eating and physical activity) standards
  • Developing and maintaining yearly budgets and establishing and sustaining positive relationships with program participants, their families and prospective members.
  • Hires, trains, and provides continuous support and feedback to program staff.
  • Attend meetings, online webinars, and trainings.
  • Follow all YMCA policies for working with youth and vulnerable adults.
  • Complete required abuse prevention training.
  • Supervise high-risk activities responsibly and report any unsafe or inappropriate behavior.
  • Follow mandated reporting laws for suspected abuse.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Visual and auditory ability to observe and to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation
  • Ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform related physical skills;
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Ability to climb, push, and pull; Ability to lift and carry objects up to 20 pounds.

Qualifications

Educational/experience requirements for licensed child care sites (must be one of the following combinations):

  • AA in Child Development, 3 semester (4.5 quarter) units in Admin and 2 years teaching experience OR
  • BA in Child Development, 3 semester (4.5 quarter) units in Admin and 1 year teaching OR
  • Child Development Credential or Permit OR
  • AA or Bachelor's Degree, 3 semester (4.5 quarter) units in Admin and 3 semester (4.5 quarter) units in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or School Age Courses (classes include, but not limited to child growth and development, or human growth and development; child, family and community, or child and family; and program/curriculum), and experience of 3 hours a day for a 100 days in a calendar year
  • No degree: Three (3) semester (4.5 quarter) units in Admin, 3 units in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or School Age Courses, and 9 semester (13.5 quarter) units from the following: recreation, physical education, human services, units earned toward an elementary or middle school teaching credential, or Early Childhood Education, Child Development or School Age Courses (classes include, but not limited to child growth and development, or human growth and development; child, family and community, or child and family; and program/curriculum) and experience of 3 hours a day for a 100 days in a calendar year. All classes must be completed with a passing grade.

Educational/experience requirements for grant funded sites:

  • 48 semester college units required or successful completion of District approved parallel requirements plan for staff who do not hold 48 semester units.
  • 1 year experience.

Other requirements:

  • Possess Health and Safety certificate (includes Pediatric First Aid and CPR).
  • Complete YMCA child abuse prevention and injury and illness prevention training within 30 days of hire.
  • All personnel shall be in good health and shall be physically capable of performing assigned tasks. Verification of good health by a health screening, including a test for TB, not more than one year prior to their start date or three days after employment.
  • Obtain a California clearance or a criminal record exemption as required by law (from DOJ/CACI and FBI) prior to working with children and on site.
  • Minimum age of 21.
