Summary

Are you creative, organized, and passionate about working with children? The City of Lake Forest is seeking an After School Enrichment Coordinator – Rec Instructor to help plan, prepare, and lead engaging after school enrichment programs through the Parks & Recreation Department.

This part-time role is responsible for developing curriculum, preparing lesson plans, teaching daily activities, supporting program operations, and helping create a safe, welcoming, and positive environment for participants. The After School Enrichment Coordinator also supports supplemental programming, including School Days Off enrichment opportunities.

Examples of duties

  • Develop and implement curriculum, lesson plans, and daily enrichment activities for after school programs and supplemental programming
  • Provide in-classroom teaching, leadership, and active supervision of participants
  • Create and maintain a safe, welcoming, organized, and engaging classroom environment
  • Provide daily direction and support to program support staff, including reviewing activities, expectations, and participant needs
  • Coordinate classroom setup, cleanup, materials, supplies, and purchasing within the approved program budget
  • Communicate with parents and guardians by phone, email, or in person regarding program information, questions, or concerns
  • Serve as a liaison with building leadership staff to help ensure program space is secured and ready for use
  • Model and enforce applicable school, City, and program rules, policies, safety expectations, and behavior standards
  • Produce a monthly newsletter to share program updates and information with families
  • May assist with City, department, and community special events as needed

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience working with children required; experience in a classroom, enrichment, recreation, camp, or after school setting preferred
  • Knowledge of child development, age-appropriate activities, and positive behavior guidance
  • Excellent customer service, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team and provide direction and support to program staff
  • Ability to communicate effectively with participants, parents/guardians, staff, and supervisors
  • Ability to maintain a safe, welcoming, and organized program environment

  • After school hours, with additional opportunities during School Days Off programming and special events
  • Benefits: IMRF, paid time off
  • The After School Program will follow the same schedule as District 67
