How you will make an impact
Join Cabrini's After Hours Medical team to provide onsite care and medical support for inpatients after hours, including weeknights, weekends and public holidays. Help ensure all patients receive timely and appropriate care during their admission, with the support and direction of the admitting consultants.
This is a casual position, with the opportunity to work at both our Malvern and Brighton campuses. After Hours Medical Officers are expected to commit to working at least one shift per month to maintain contemporary knowledge of the hospital and its policies.
Key responsibilities:
Provide onsite management of Cabrini inpatients (excluding ICU), including assessment, treatment and monitoring, in consultation with the patient’s primary specialist(s).
Perform procedures which are relevant to patient care and for which you have received necessary standards of training (e.g. intravenous cannulation, urinary catheterisation, arterial/venous blood gas collection).
Prescribe appropriate fluid, drug and other therapies deemed appropriate for the patient’s welfare.
Act as the first responder for MET calls and other emergency codes and provide emergency medical care in collaboration with other on-site clinicians and, where appropriate, the patient’s admitting consultants (VMOs).
Maintain professional standards of contemporaneous documentation and communication.
Participate in clinical handover with the patient’s care team on commencement and conclusion of shifts.
What we're looking for:
MBBS, MD or equivalent degree
Unconditional general registration with AHPRA as a Medical Practitioner
Minimum of three years’ clinical experience following graduation (PGY4+)
Excellent communication skills
Ability to work well within a multi-disciplinary team
