Summary

Processes fingerprint images and initiates search/match of criminal and applicant fingerprint cards utilizing the multiple processor semi-automated fingerprint identification system

Examples of duties

  1. Monitors Read/Edit (the input station) ensuring correct fingerprint classification, core delta distance, minutiae count, clarity and position of image for each finger. Researches past due invoices past due invoices from assigned vendors. This includes calling vendors and City personnel to request additional information.
  2. Overrides the system as necessary to correct erroneous information or manually positions and processes prints rejected by the system classifier. Encodes or deletes minutia as necessary in order to enhance the possibility of a match. Evaluates match reports to verify that correct search parameter information was entered into the database. Views respondent images on Display/Edit station for possible identification against ten-print fingerprint cards and unsolved latent file. Resolves minor computer malfunctions that may occur and notifies appropriate co-worker/supervisor.
  3. Compiles and disseminates information collected from criminal justice agencies. Maintains accounting record of users who access arrest histories. Utilizes the Louisiana Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (LLETS) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC).
  4. Assists with other operations of the Investigations Bureau and Crime Scene Unit.
  5. Performs other duties as required.
  6. Process fingerprint bookings submitted by Livescan agencies following through to completion.
  7. Provide technical assistance to Livescan agencies on the phone.
  8. Fingerprinting civilian and civil service applicants.
  9. Process criminal record checks for external agency requests and clearance letters.
  10. Fulfill requests for LACCHs for police officers, detectives, and OSI, DEA, LSP, ATF agents.
  11. Call Livescan agencies to inform them they have outstanding cases waiting to be descriptor completed.
  12. Compiling monthly operator STATS.

Qualifications

  1. Two years or more of college credit in Criminal Justice or Fingerprint Science; or two (2) years of experience in classifying fingerprints or related experience in fingerprint science or 2 years in computer information systems or honorably discharged from military service (DD-214) OR minimum 4 years prior employment with a law enforcement agency.
  2. Possession of or ability to obtain legal access to Louisiana Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (LLETS), no felony convictions or outstanding warrants.
  3. Knowledge of Automated Fingerprint System, computer functions, fingerprint pattern classification, and identification. Ability to operate and monitor a variety of biometric systems, including AFIS workstation and livescan.
  4. Two years of experience using Microsoft Office.
  5. Excellent written and communicationskills. Must be able to prepare clear and concise reports and correspondence.
  6. Hold, or be able to qualify for, such certificates or licenses as may be required by Federal, State, or City governments.
  7. Possess and maintain a valid State ID.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  1. Tasks are regularly performed in doors in an office environment. There is limited exposure to extreme weather conditions. May have normal exposure to dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature, and noise.
