We are seeking a motivated Aerospace and Composites Application Development Manager to drive innovation-led growth for our Nomex® and Kevlar® Aerospace business For over 60 years, our materials have enabled flight, chosen for their flame resistance, lightweight strength, and durability. As the aerospace industry evolves toward next-generation flight and new frontiers, we are innovating to shape the future of aviation. The Aerospace Application Development Manager will lead global technical strategy, application development, and customer-facing support for Nomex® and Kevlar® materials used in aircraft and spacecraft – including those for military use. This role combines leadership with hands-on application development expertise, serving as both a manager and individual contributor to advance business priorities, identify emerging market needs, and guide technology programs that support growth and innovation. This position reports directly to the Global Technology Manager for Aerospace and Energy Solutions

Key Responsibilities

The Aerospace and Composites Application Development Manager will consolidate regional market updates, customer needs, and technology priorities into a coordinated global view for Aerospace, including military applications. The role will represent the Aerospace team in leadership meetings by providing project updates, technical recommendations, and input into segment strategy. This leader will lead, coach, and develop a global technical team while continuing to contribute individuall as an application development expert. The position will set direction for research and development programs supporting Aramid materials for OEMs and sub suppliers, manage long-term development activities including specification development, testing programs, data analysis, and interpretation of lab and field results, and provide voice-of-customer input to material development engineers and commercial teams to guide new product development and application improvements. The role will also partner with Sales and Marketing to support existing customers, identify unmet needs, and translate industry trends into actionable technology and business plans, while participating in regional and global standards organizations and developing publications, papers, or technical communications that share research findings with the industry.

Scope of Expertise

The successful candidate will bring deep knowledge of Aerospace and composites design, testing, manufacture, operation, and system performance. The role requires technical expertise across various materials and composites and experience in the Aerospace qualification process.

This leader will work across technical, commercial, marketing, laboratory, and customer-facing teams to align technology programs with business direction. The position will identify new industry trends, support development of new materials and solutions, and ensure that technical programs address customer needs in the global Aerospace markets.

Required Qualifications

Required qualifications include at least five years of team leadership or management experience and hold a BS or higher degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, or Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, or Material Science and should demonstrate fluent verbal and written English communication skills as well as proficiency with Microsoft Office. The candidate should have at least five years of hands-on experience in aircraft or spacecraft component or system design, experience creating or using Aerospace specifications, and in-depth knowledge of material science, Aerospace applications, and composites.

This role requires strong demonstrated technical capability, particularly in problem solving and analytical ability, along with experience working with cross-functional teams to develop and commercialize new products and applications.

The candidate must be able to analyze data and communicate insights meaningfully to internal and external stakeholders. They should bring an established network of relationships across the industry value chain, and show initiative by identifying problems, suggesting solutions, and proactively contribute to product development and customer issue resolution. The ideal candidate will be self-directed, skilled at leading and mentoring diverse teams, and effective in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

They should also be able to influence across regions, functions, and technical disciplines without relying solely on formal authority, supported by strong strategic thinking, an innovation mindset, learning agility, and entrepreneurial initiative.

Preferred Qualifications and Competencies

Preferred candidates will have an active security clearance for the US or other allied nations. Salesforce.com experience and language capabilities beyond English are also preferred, particularly to support collaboration with global customers and cross-functional internal teams.

Travel and Work Environment

The role requires flexibility to work in a fast-paced, customer-focused, global environment. Frequent business travel within the home region is expected up to 25%, with international travel to support customers, technical programs, industry organizations, trade shows, and global team collaboration.
