Job Description

The Aero Controls Senior Engineer for Retrofits demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives within the Gas Turbine (GT) Controls migration and HMI domain. In this role, you will integrate and develop processes that meet business needs across the organization, manage complex issues within the Aero Retrofits expertise area, and contribute to the overall business strategy by providing technical direction to the engineering community.
The Senior Engineer will lead the requisition, design, and validation of control systems for Aero GT, while driving a culture of technical depth, long-term planning, and a strong customer-focused mindset.

Main Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Mentorship:Provide technical direction to the engineering community and lead business initiatives in design, quality, and productivity. Act as a mentor to other personnel and assigned teams, fostering technical growth across the organization.
  • Agile Methodology:Work and lead within an Agile software methodology, ensuring that development processes are efficient, transparent, and aligned with business goals.
  • Testing & Validation:Support and influence comprehensive test plans for system verification and validation. This includes oversight of new article and customer system Software Acceptance Tests (SwATs/FAT), site pre-operation, startup, and commissioning.
  • Strategic Planning & Scheduling:Formulate and implement plans to achieve technical requirements and contract commitments. Partner closely with Project Managers, GDLs, and end customers to establish Project Baseline Master Schedules and requirements.
  • Stakeholder Influence & Brand Building:Collaborate with and maintain close, responsive, and productive working relationships with internal GE groups and external customers. You are responsible for establishing and maintaining Controls credibility and the GE brand in the marketplace.
  • Technical Authority:Lead technical reviews and participate as a senior reviewer. Ensure that system function, performance, interface, reliability, maintainability, and safety requirements are defined and managed to the highest standards.
  • Program Management:Function as a program manager when appropriate, taking ownership of high-risk, complex projects from ITO (Inquiry to Order) to COD (Commercial Operation Date).
  • Requirements Management:Lead globally and be accountable for overall Control System Requirements definition, driving consistent solutions across all Aero controls product lines.
  • Risk & Problem Management:Develop and execute action plans to anticipate and respond to complex technical or business problems, ensuring Technical & Schedule Risk Mitigation across the complete Controls scope.
  • Operational Excellence:Be accountable for Controls cost and schedule targets; monitor and communicate project status and significant developments to business leaders.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or related Engineering.
  • Substantial experience in Controls Field execution and Design experience in Gas Turbine or relevant power segment
  • Proven track record of meeting broad business goals and objectives.
  • Advanced technical aptitude, including deep knowledge of applicable engineering tools and systems.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
  • The role involves travel up to 20% of the time.

Desired Characteristics

  • Extensive experience in the design and application of Power generation controls, electrical, or accessory systems.
  • Deep knowledge of Gas Turbine, Steam Turbine, and/or Plant controls or equivalent
  • Demonstrated ability to independently drive complex projects to completion and manage multi-functional teams.
  • Proven expertise in technical writing and the ability to present complex data to business leaders.
  • Significant experience in power generation requisition, working directly with customers, project management, or EPCs.
