We’re looking for an Advocate Counselor who brings heart, resilience, and a deep belief in the power of healing. If you’re energized by supporting survivors, navigating crisis moments with calm clarity, and helping individuals rebuild their sense of safety and self, this role may be exactly where you belong.
What You’ll Do:
As an Advocate Counselor, you’ll be a steady, compassionate presence for survivors navigating some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Your work will include:
- Crisis Intervention & Emotional Support Offering trauma‑informed counseling, safety planning, and immediate crisis response on our hotline and LAP line.
- Advocacy That Makes a Difference Guiding clients through risk assessments, restraining order processes, court accompaniment, and navigating complex systems with dignity and respect.
- Empowerment Through Education Helping survivors understand the dynamics of abuse, build coping strategies, and strengthen their sense of agency.
- Community Connection Collaborating with partner agencies, making referrals, and ensuring clients have access to the resources they need.
- Program & Shelter Support Facilitating support groups, maintaining accurate case documentation, and providing shelter coverage when needed.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required;
- Two years Advocacy and/or direct service experience working with survivors of domestic violence in a community-based setting preferred;
- Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) reading writing and speaking preferred;
- Must be able to obtain and maintain certification as a Certified Domestic Violence Counselor (under CGS 52-146K as amended, regarding Confidential Communications).  Then six-hours thereafter annually to maintain certification;
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of clients;
- Knowledge of community resources;
- Crisis intervention and counseling skills;
- Must be proficient in Microsoft 365. Must be able to navigate through electronic health records system (EHR).
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.  Must maintain an acceptable driving record and be insurable at a reasonable rate under the Organization’s auto insurance plan.
LICENSURE /CERTIFICATIONS:
- Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR/ First Aid/AED certification
