What are we looking for in an Advocate?
Advocates are part of our Aspen Victim Services program, which provides supportive services to families and individuals who have experienced sexual assault, family violence, abuse, and other crimes. Advocates support clients as they progress through the medical and legal systems, providing advocacy-based counseling, referrals, and safety planning in a sensitive and supportive manner. Advocates also facilitate group sessions, assist with training & mentoring volunteers, and provide presentations & trainings to community partners. Through the coordination of services in direct support to clients, Advocates also help to improve service delivery by developing relationships between providers within the community. Consultation with law enforcement, medical personnel, prosecuting attorneys, and victim witnesses is part of this position, so a collaborative attitude is a must. Advocates will need to have exceptional communication skills, feel comfortable working with those in crisis, and be committed to encouraging and empowering others. This position is part of our Aspen program in Ellensburg and requires participation in the rotation for after-hours crisis coverage.
Advocacy:
- Provides medical, legal and general advocacy, information, referral and support for those who have experienced family violence, abuse, assault or other crimes.
- Demonstrates engagement skills with clients and family/natural supports while honoring client choice.  Demonstrates understanding of dynamics and impact of family violence and sexual assault.
- Coordinates and consults with law enforcement, medical personnel, prosecutor and victim witness personnel and other service providers.
- Demonstrates knowledge of client rights (medical, legal, age specific) and maintains current knowledge of applicable laws and changes in procedures.
- Demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of community services and resources and actively encourages individuals to access them.
- Applies QPR (Question, Persuade or Refer) principles in assessing risk and makes appropriate referrals.
- Meets all contractual requirements.
Community Education and Prevention Activities:
- Provides trainings and presentations to community partners, effectively providing information and activities to increase knowledge and awareness skills of community members.
- Speaks and presents with professionalism.  Fields questions, answers or redirects as needed, provides content in time allowed, presentations are organized and well-paced.
- Communicates comfort with knowledge of subject matter.
- Demonstrates ability to take into account the needs and unique characteristics of the audience
- Education is provided per Office of Crime Victim Advocacy (OCVA) and/or Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS).
- Provides after-hours on-call coverage and responds to calls within the established timeframe.
- Assists with recruitment, training and support of volunteers.
- Provides mobile advocacy to breakdown barriers to accessing services.
- Cleans facilities and organizes donations as applicable.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in behavioral science or related field
- Must be able to complete or have already completed the Core Training provided by Aspen
- Must have valid driver's license, vehicle liability insurance, and a minimum of three years of safe driving experience
- Must obtain Food Worker Card
- In compliance with state and federal law, Comprehensive Healthcare requires all candidates to complete a post-offer, pre-employment drug screen and background check.
