Job Description

The Advisor, Talent Acquisition is responsible for attracting and hiring top talent to help enable CN’s objective of being North America’s first railroad of choice. The role is accountable for candidate engagement throughout the hiring lifecycle including job posting management, sourcing, conducting and scheduling interviews, extending offers and completing necessary paperwork and processes to onboard new hires. Furthermore, the role works proactively to ensure CN builds a diverse workforce.

Main Responsibilities

Recruitment Process Management – 60%

  • Oversee the full life-cycle recruitment for requisitions across North America including job postings, sourcing and resume review, pre-screening, interviews, and pipeline tracking

  • Ensure a positive candidate experience throughout the entire recruitment process

  • Handle the job offer process including offer extensions and negotiation

  • Ensure data integrity and accuracy through CN’s internal Applicant Tracking System (ATS)

  • Ensure that recruiting and hiring practices are compliant with corporate policies and governmental regulations

Relationship Building and Collaboration – 20%

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with hiring managers to understand their hiring needs while providing expertise on market trends and providing hiring recommendations

  • Collaborate and share knowledge and best practices with the Talent Acquisition and Human Resources (HR) teams

  • Act as an ambassador within the Talent Acquisition team

Talent Sourcing and Pipeline Development – 20%

  • Develop a deep understanding of CN’s talent needs across different teams and groups

  • Work towards building and maintaining strong talent pipelines continuously for multiple, complex searches by leveragingnumerous platforms

  • Source candidates directly through database mining, direct sourcing, vendor partnerships, and referrals

  • Conduct initial conversations with potential candidates to evaluate qualifications, providing feedback and recommendations on next steps

Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The role is currently eligible to participate in CN’s flexible work from home policy. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and stress. The role requires minimal travel (up to 20%) within Canada and the United States (U.S.)

  • Minimum 2 years of recruiting experience in transportation or a trade based environment

Education/Certification/Designation

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or equivalent

  • Fluently bilingual, both written and verbal (English, French)

  • Experience with ATS or Recruitment Software

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Knowledge of interviewing, negotiation, and closing best practices

The Advisor, Talent Acquisition contributes on sourcing talent for inside and outside of CN. The incumbent evaluates the candidate’s capacity and competencies and provides recommendations to the hiring managers on preferred candidates. The position ensures all steps of the process are met and gets the required approvals to ensure compliance.

Level of Interaction/Influence

The Advisor, Talent Acquisition interacts with individuals internal and external to CN. Within the organization, the incumbent liaises with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) from various functions such as individual contributors, First Line Supervisors, Middle Managers, Directors and Vice-Presidents, Human Resources Business Partners, Campus Instructors, and Human Resource Information System team members. Outside of CN, the role communicates with candidates and recruitment firms.

Employees Supervised/Organizational Structure

The Advisor, Talent Acquisition reports to reports to the Manager, Talent Acquisition and has no supervisory responsibility.

This position is posted as a Grade 10.
