The role | Te tūnga

As Advisor – Strategic Programmes and Advice, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of strategic programmes and initiatives across Partnerships and Commissions. Working within a diverse and fast-paced portfolio, you will be part of a team providing high-quality administrative coordination and secretariat support to the Lottery Grants Board, and the leadership team.

You will contribute to the preparation of advice, reporting, and decision-making materials, including briefings and board papers, while coordinating processes and workflows that support effective governance and operational outcomes. This includes supporting the end-to-end secretariat function for Lottery Grants Board activities, such as meeting co-ordination, agenda development, documentation management and ensuring quality and timeliness of materials. The role requires strong organisational, computing, and interpersonal skills, as well as the initiative to manage competing priorities and support multiple stakeholders.

You will also assist with programme and project activities, maintain effective systems and processes, and support your manager and team members as needed. In doing so, you will help strengthen relationships with internal and external stakeholders and contribute to continuous improvement in service delivery across community development, grant funding, and the wider voluntary sector, helping achieve meaningful outcomes for communities across New Zealand.

What you bring | Nōu te rourou

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deliver clear, timely advice and contribute to high-quality ministerial and board outputs
  • Experience supporting governance or Board processes including secretariat functions such as meeting coordination, agenda preparation and quality assurance of Board materials
  • Sound understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the ability to work effectively with Māori, Pacific peoples, and diverse communities
  • Strong organisational and coordination skills, with experience in reporting, monitoring, and quality assurance, with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment, using sound judgement and strong organisational skills
  • Understanding of machinery of government, including supporting Ministers, boards, and governance processes
  • Strong relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and influence outcomes
