City and Regional Deals is a government initiative for supporting economic growth across Aotearoa New Zealand through long-term partnerships between central and local government. The programme enables access to funding and resources to deliver regional priorities such as infrastructure, transport, and housing. Each Deal is focused on supporting communities to grow and thrive through collaboration with councils, the private sector, and Māori organisations, building long-term regional resilience.
In December 2025, the Government announced the establishment of a new agency, the Ministry of Cities, Environment, Regions and Transport. MCERT will bring together the Ministry for the Environment, Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Ministry of Transport and the Local Government functions from Internal Affairs. The City and Regional Deals team will move to the new Ministry on 1 July 2026.
